Oh Oh! I Lost My Voice!

Woke up this am with slight pain on the right side of my throat up towards my right ear and hardly any voice. I am not feeling sick it just hurts to try and talk.

This is going to be a wonderful day! I am so glad that I have good kids and usually a shake of my head for no means a lot!

Today is going to be a day where I clap my hands a lot to get their attention, speak once and if they choose not to listen the first time, then I direct the kids to what they need to be doing. ::

Has anyone else ever had to provide care with no voice? It makes such a difficult day!

Try mixing honey and lemon and taking that. A tablespoon of burbon mixed in the glass, will help too! I use to lose my voice all the time as a receptionist (before I had my tonsils out at 27). I put that mixture in a squirt type bottle, like a hair color bottle or a mustard bottle. I kept it on my desk and squirted my throat each time I had to answer the phone. It really helped.

I was the same way two weeks ago. I woke up Sunday morning with laryngitis and had it until Friday, almost a whole week. The week was difficult...I couldn't even finish one book without having to cough and needing a drink of water. I have no clue where it came from, I felt fine, not sore throat but I was VERY fatigued...as soon as 5:30 came and the children left I would go to sleep until 8 and then wake up, go back to bed around 11...It was a very exhausting week...It gets very difficult when the children don't want to listen..their were a few times, I brought them to the living room to let them watch tv so my voice would get a break....I wish you the best!!!

When I was teaching, every time I got a cold, at the end of it I would ALWAYS lose my voice. The funny thing was, it actually IMPROVED the kids' listening skills because they really had to strain to hear me. If I asked them a question, most of them would answer me in a whisper because that's what I was doing. ::

Same thing happens in my daycare. We have a lot of "group time" where we're in a circle if I have something I want to tell them.

Clap patterns help and they're fun. Find a rhythm that you like and is easy to repeat and have them repeat it back to you after you've done it. That shows that they're ready to listen to you.

Boil several bay leaves and breath in the vapors for several minutes.
