Did I Hit The Panic Button?

Two of my DCB's (brothers) have been out sick with this awful stomach virus (diarrhea/vomiting). One was out Monday - Wednesday, and the second out Tuesday and Wednesday (after having a liquid blowout Monday afternoon). This morning, the second one vomitted before breakfast and was miserable. I called Mom within 15 minutes to come pick him up.

I'm now feeling guilty that I hit the panic button. I think typically exclusion is when a child vomits twice in 24 hours, but due to the boys being sick for the past week, I didn't want to wait around.

I guess I'm just looking for feedback on whether I did the right thing or not. Thoughts?

I would have of done exactly the same thing!

Vomit = Go home (unless I can determine it is not from illness)

If they've been sick, I think you are completely justified in calling mom to come pick up. I would've done the exact same thing!

No, I think you did the right thing. They had a stomach virus this week and one of them threw up. You said he was miserable. That's actually 2 things in my policy that are grounds for sending the poor guy home. He needs to get better. Don't feel bad!

Thanks. I always feel guilty for some reason. I'm relatively new at this, so I'm always wondering if I'm justified or not. I'm a work in process!

I do one vomit and they are out.

If it's a baby and they spit up... no ... but once they are past the baby stage I just do one vomit and exclude.

I'm a one vomit house too. My parents all know how I feel about stomach bugs.

You did the right thing, especially considering they have been ill.

I send home after one vomit....did it just yesterday when a 3 year old vomited at naptime....I don't have time to wait around for one more and then another cleanup before sending home.

Yup! One vomit and they're out of here, too. Considering their symptoms this week, you made the right choice. Stop feeling guilty; you're totally justified in sending him home.

Count me in too. One vomit for whatever reason gets sent home.

Same here. I call the parent after a child throws up one time.
