    TV and Kids

Do you notice how more and more kids participate in dramatic play.....but it's like they already have a script, and that script is from the movies they see? A little bit of it....OK....but sometimes I'd love to be dramatic play be their own script. Isn't that what it's all about....acting out life experiences that they are trying out or trying to make sense of? If I hear one more time......"I'm OK, I'm OK".....I just might run away. I don't even know what that phrase is from....but I am positive it's from a movie these kids have watched over and over.

i have SA boys whose dramatic play revolves around creating controllers out of lego's, then sitting and playing a video game. They both have the same game at home and will "play" it here. I find it rather disturbing. My 9 and 12 year old daughters watch iCarly and I am amazed when I have 4 year old girls who come and act out the episodes. Imagination isn't what it used to be for sure!

I used to have a 3 yo that would act out full scenes of Star Wars word for word. He had to have watched that movie so many times. He knew EVERY word!

I had a kid like that too. He was obsessed with Star Wars. I can't even say "I'll try" anymore without hearing his voice say "either do, or do not.. there is no try" (in his best Yoda voice)

My current kids love the movie Toy Story 3. But, they never act out characters. They do a lot of "You be the puppy and I'll be the mom" Or "You be an Alligator and pretend like you are going to eat me"

If a kid said that to me, I'd bust out laughing! Maybe not after the 100th time, but still....

I'm a movie gal so it doesn't bother me if the kids act out scenes from tv or movies, as long as it's appropriate. Kids mimic what they see, and sometimes it's from TV. None of my dck's play solely tv games. They're creative as well, so it really doesn't bug me.

I have a DCB 4.5. One week we were learning about being an author. So I asked the kids one at a time to tell me a story. I then wrote the story down in a little paper book that we made. The kids then drew pics to go with it.

The DCB tells me this fantastic story and I thought WOW this kid is a natural. I was so proud of him and could not wait for him to share with mom.

At pick up we read mom the story and mom says oh you wrote the moive how to train your dragon...............uuuggghhhh...
