What To Do About Dck4 Who Cries Over Every Little Bump?

I have a dcg4 who has been crying on and off for days about a bruise on her leg, and now a little scrape on her arm too. She will be happy one minute, and then BAWLING the next! She won't even eat lunch right now, because she is crying! I am trying to be empathetic, and i'm giving her extra cuddles whenever I can, but I can't stop all activities because her scrape hurts, so instead, I feel like i'm ignoring her.

I've had her for a LONG time, and until 2 weeks ago, she was never like this. Now she cries all the time. It's driving me nuts! She really doesn't express herself very well, and i'm thinking that there must be something else going on, because there is no way this small scrape hurts THAT much.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do with her?

I don't other than rule out anything medical since this is a new behavior.

How old is she? Maybe someone can chime in on whether this is normal developmental behavior?

It sounds like she might be sad about something unrelated to her boo boo....

But for a normal boo boo I make them laugh. The very first thing I ask (once I assess it's not a really injury) in a very serious voice is "Do you think I need to cut it off?" That usually does it for my crew to get them laughing but my some of my followup questions and comments are: "Do we need an ambulance? Should I call the fire department? ARE YOU GOING TO SURVIVE?? Oh no! Everyone stop and look for DCB's finger. I think it fell off!" I also only give out bandaids (plain ones) if the boo boo is bleeding. No blood, don't ask.

My casual attitude means that 99% of boo boos are forgotten in the first 30 seconds and the real ones get real attention much quicker because there is very little boo boo hysteria.

sounds like she is growing up to be a fine young lady :::::: Just kidding.

I don't know. Maybe ask mom at pick up how dcg has been at home. Let her know that she has been tearful during the day and will call attention to the bruise and now the scrape. Maybe mom will open up and let you know of something personal that may be going on with her or the family that is affecting dcg.
