What Do You Guys Think Of This?

I came across this article in another forum and was wondering what providers who do preschool and those who don't thought of this. Does it reinforce or change your thoughts and feelings on the topic?

Ours is an age of pedagogy. Anxious parents instruct their children more and more, at younger and younger ages, until they're reading books to babies...

    that's great!!!

I forwarded the link to my sis, she is a teacher, and I know for a fact she uses the method of explaining the problem, allowing the child time to think of an answer, then she asks them to explain why they think that, and then she doesn't say "right/wrong" she says very good, but what if we did this. ETC ETC.

This is the approach I use a lot. Very good try Johnny, what if we changed this, then what would happen

I saw that on facebook this morning!

I liked it. I think actively teaching preschoolers can be slightly useless. But, some things I do "Teach".

I don't TEACH the kids how to cut with scissors, but by age two, they can all cut anyway. I do have to teach them to use glue though.

I present letters, but I don't drill them, or use flash cards. But, I keep magnetic letters and kid's names on the metal wall, and they ask me. "Who's name is this?" So, I guess I'm teaching that. I could say "who's does it look like?". I just get so tired of hearing it all day.

I think children should be provided opportuniyies to learn i.e. props set out maybe a theme idea thrown out there and then let them at it. they come up with some really cool learning ideas that way.
