What Do Daycare Providers Make?

Saw this and thought I'd share....

Some dinner guests were sitting around the table discussing life.
One man, a CEO, decided to explain the problem with children.
He argued, "What's a kid going to learn from someone who decided
their best option in life was to become a daycare provider?"

He reminded the other dinner guests what they say
about daycare providers:
"Those who can, do. Those who can't, watch kids."
To stress his point he said to another guest;
"You're a babysitter, Susan. Be honest. What do you make?"


Susan, who had a reputation for honesty and frankness replied,
"If you really want to know what I make,I will tell you.

I make kids play harder than they ever thought they could.
I make a completed art project feel like winning the Congressional Medal of Honor.
I make kids share, speak kindly and be accountable for their actions."

"You want to know what I make?
I make kids wonder.
I make them question.
I make them try.
I make them apologize and mean it.
I make them write.
I make them read, read, read.
I make them understand that if you use your brains,
and follow your heart,
you can accomplish anything.
I make them know they are important and loved.
I make them know they are special.
I make them know if someone ever
tries to judge them by what they make,
they must pay no attention because
that person just didn't learn."

Susan paused and then continued.
"You really want to know what I make?"
"I MAKE A DIFFERENCE."
"What do you make?"

OK...this actually made me puff up with pride and cry at the same time. What a wonderful post...thank you! I will go through today with my head held high!

I will definitely be using that last quote at my high school reunion this summer! The people I went to high school with are such snobs and honestly, I've been a little worried about it, even though I love what I do and am proud of it.

No need for :confused: because we are all babysitters AND teachers and we all do exactly what Susan said she does; WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE!! Call me anything you want to call me because I don't really care...I do what I do, I say what I mean and I am proud to make a difference!!


...you probably make a great living Nan because you make a BIG difference in the lives of the kids you babysit!!

That was really sweet, and so true.

I honestly make a very good living...I make almost as much money as my DH does, and I make more doing this than I would at a "regular" job--when you figure in the cost of childcare for my DD if I had a regular job, the money I make now is even better.

Sure we may only get paid a couple bucks an hour per kid...but when you multiply that by the number of kids you have in care at one time, it's not nearly so bad.

I honestly make a very good living...I make almost as much money as my DH does, and I make more doing this than I would at a "regular" job.

That's what I'm sayin.

If you do it well and right you can make a great living.

I think babysitting is a really nobel profession. I've enjoyed it for many years.

I think it's a lot like any other service profession. Get really good at your craft and keep your business tennies on and you will be fine.
