"Miss L is using her NICE VOICE..."

Hey everyone, hope you're having a great day. I wanted to post on something that happened yesterday.

I work in a center- a really bad one that I plan to leave as soon as I can find a different job.
I posted recently about my problems with the center and I really appreciate all your feedback.

Well, the other day I was reading to my two year old class in our room. The director came in and looked in on the class, said some things to some of the kids, then proceeded to say, "Wow, and Miss L is talking to y'all in such a NICE VOICE......." In the same way that you would brag on 2 YEAR OLD if he were doing something good.

I was offended, because she thinks it is appropriate to talk THROUGH the children to her employees, and that apparently when I use my stern, firm voice, she disapproves. It implies that she's not happy with my performance there.

Well, I have to use my stern voice because of how often we are doing restroom routine in the hall DIRECTLY BESIDE her office. My kids' safety is at risk if they don't do what they should do- I have to use a firm voice. That doesn't mean I'm not loving to them at other times. Should I speak up, or how should I go about it?
Would this offend you, or would you just shrug it off? Should I say something?

I've had a cooperating teacher do that to me. Irritated me to no end. The only thing I said to her about it was that it undermined my authority when she "helped" like that. I'm sure I phrased it more nicely than that though. I'm not a fan of people watching what I'm doing, which is why I do in-home rather than a center, so I know you're in a different situation.

If it doesn't happen too often, I'd say shrug it off. We've all had bosses that got under our skins. If it really does bug you though, ask her if there's anything that she'd like to talk to you about, since you "got the feeling she disapproved of something".

                Laundrymom, hilarious!
I would looove to do that.
She needs a dose of reality....every time she talks to the kids it is in a sickly-sweet dripping-with-honey voice. And because she is the director, they listen, so she thinks that works.
Uh.....no. They would eat me alive.

Well, I didn't say anything to her, and I'm glad I didn't. It wouldn't have changed anything and it would've made things more strained between us than they already are.

I just want to establish with her, that I am not afraid of her and want to do things the way I think is best.
Thanks for the feedback! It makes it better that someone gets what I'm talking about.
