How Do You Teach A Child To Blow Their Nose?

I have a dcg 3.0 who seems to have a horrible sinus infection. Her nose is super thick gross green and running so bad. She cannot blow her nose and I am having to wipe her nose every min., wash hands and then repeat.

Does anyone have a way of teaching a child to learn to blow thier nose?

I tried 1.2.3... blow your house down, but that didn;t work

awww yea I hear ya... poor babies make you wish you could blow it for them

there was an episode on disney channel speacial agent Oso that he taught a girl/boy can't remember which one it was now how to blow their nose. I seen it and was like ok kids watch and learn. my dd who is 4 is now blowing her own nose after watching that and I tried before to tech her but she always blew out her mouth. wish I could remember what exactly he said to teach her but I forget now.

Maybe if you show her by blowing air out of your own nose. Close your mouth and exhale air out of your nose (as long as no snot comes with it :, then have her put her hand just below your nose to feel the air.

Then tell her you want to feel her air, but she's going to have to blow hard. Have her close her mouth and put the tissue under her nose and say, "let me feel your air!" It worked with my daughter, but her runny nose wasn't too bad when she learned to do it. If your dcg's nose is too stuffed, she may not be able to blow it.

Ok I am going to try this now. I almost thought about sending her home because the snot is so green thick and she cant even breath properly. All of the kids are yelling eeeww get away from me you have gross bogars and you're breathing on me....
              I feel bad for her.....

I will let you know if it works..thanks for the idea

If all else fails, you could always use an aspirator (if she'll cooperate enough). It beats having to send her home.

It's kind of gross, b/c at first it makes a mess, but here's what I do. I hold the tissue lightly by just one corner, and show them myself how I close my mouth and "blow" the tissue with my nose so it wiggles. They like to see if wiggle::
They then like to try, and for me it has usually worked. Once they can "wiggle" the tissue, they know how to blow!

They're really cheap. I prefer the Little Noses kits with the aspirator. They come with saline and an aspirator, which happens to be the most effective one I've ever used. They run around $4-$5.
