I wish it was that easy but since I'm licensed it's not. It's very hard to do transportation here with all the regulations and becuase I have a mini van I'd have to get a kiddie alarm which is $400. I also can't have just anyone come in to cover for me. Subs here need shaken baby, tb test, childcare classes, yearly physical and their kids count in my ratio if they have any.

I will probably just have to miss out sometimes or trade with my husband who is currently my sub.

At christmas time I closed for the day and went to it but I have more kids now and would be out $200 (parents don't pay if I close except holidays) for a 30 minute concert

I've also got their spring sing concert (missed the last one) and I know there is a mothers day brunch for my K5'er and a last day of school celebration for my k5'er. I plan on having DH cover for one and take off for the other.

How do you do it when your kids have school things you want to go to???
Are you able to hire a 'fill in' person for when these events happen? This is what I normally do, however, I still don't always manage to make it to every event. I can't afford to close either for the day because of the financial lose so if I don't have a fill in I just can't go. This might be something worth looking in to.

honestly, i would try to use your time for the IMPORTANT events or special events. MOST parents don't go to things like a "mother's day brunch." heck, most parents didn't come to the classroom parties. there's no reason to feel bad if you can't go - teachers know that parents work (obviously). maybe my kids are weird, but i talk to them if there's something i can't come to that i think there will be other parents show up for and they don't seem to care at all.

used to be 5 or 6. i would have a double stroller, one baby "strapped" to me, and i would bribe the two/three oldest to behave . i always bring toys they havent seen in awhile and special snacks to occupy them.

right now i only have 2 full time, so its easy-peasy.

Same here. We are not allowed to transport under the age of 3 unless it is routine things such as regularly scheduled school pick ups. Also, our subs here need to have CPR/First Aid, TB test, physical, and yearly training hours.
