I have a 7 week old infant here who is very very gassy and is fussy ALL THE TIME! He is very uncomfortable and will be perfectly fine 1 minute and start wailing the next! I've been using gas drop Mom provided but they don't seem to make a difference. He really likes being put on the floor and having his legs pushed upward into his tummy but he starts wailing the second I stop. Clearly with 3 other children here I can't do that all day! Mom provided some of those NUK bottles which I recall trying with my daughter. The slow flow nipple was waaaayy to slow and the med. flow was too fast and the nipple was constantly collapsing despite their "patented air vent system". When he drinks from these bottles I can tell the nipple flow is way too fast for him. I can hear the air pockets he is swallowing and it sounds painful. He is formula fed and on the enfamil newborn formula. They changed his formula around A LOT in a matter of a few weeks and have since settled on this one and he's been on it for almost 2 weeks now. So last night I picked up some Dr Browns bottles and I'm hoping that he'll take to them. I'm wondering if anyone has any tried and true gas remedies for infants. TIA!

I like playtex bottles because you can **** the air right out of them. Also, what formula is he on. I found that nestle good start was much easier to digest than anything else. Also, I know you can give him something for the gas too, I forget what its called. Oh I found wrapping his belly with a reciveing blanket works too.- Flag

I had Dr Brown's bottles with both of my own... I liked them.
Our pediatrician told us that Enfamil Nutramigen is the formula that is the MOST gentle on their stomachs and easiest to break down. I know he's been switched around a lot recently; so maybe try giving his current formula a couple more weeks to work & then suggest Nutramigen if he's still really gassy?- Flag

Contrary to alot of "experts" I believe MOST air they swallow doesn't come from inside the bottle but swallow it at the time of latching on. When a nipple comes out of their mouth they swallow air with each latch. Best bottles, and only I use are gerber 3 hole brown ones. Plain bottles, no fancy gadgets. If the baby feels better with feet up, experiment with different positions of rolled up receiving blankets with them on their tummy. Also as they are leaning into your hand face first against your arm in an almost infant back blow CPR hold, use your other hand along their spine massaging and making them wiggle. Sometimes a burp gets stuck and the simple jostle of them releases it. I burp every ounce and a half or so. Move them around. Try to think of the burp like an air bubble in a waterbed or solar cover on a pool. Sometimes a simple burp method is not good enough. It takes time to figure out each infant. What works with Josie may not work with rylee. And what works with joshona today may not work tomorrow. Try ho remember their insides are a jumbled mess and sometimes it's like unknotting a necklace getting burps out. Also sometimes you can " feel" where it is. Their belly or back will feel expanded. You can lean them around and try a side type lean to release it. You can feel when it let's out the air like a balloon deflating. Also face down on your lap while gently swaying your legs and patting. Good luck!!- Flag
