For Those That Serve A Later Breakfast...

Sorry for all the food related threads recently but just trying to get my schedule and plan all ironed out.

My dcks start arriving at 7a and the last one gets here by 8:30a. Up until now I was just serving breakfast to each as they arrived. Made for a long breakfast period and because the first arrives at 7a the meals weren't as filling as I could potentially make them. Then we would have a mid morning snack at 9:30a.

I'm thinking about pushing breakfast to 8:30a and then eliminating my morning snack. I would make the breafast more hearty and it should definitely carry them to lunch which is at 11:30a.

For those that serve a later breakfast what do you tell the parents of the kids that come early? Give them a little snack in the car?

I'm just worried about them being too hungry to make it to 8:30a.

I serve breakfast at 8:30, because my kids usually sleep until 8-8:30. The dckids all have some little snack (toast, baggie of cereal, pop tart ) on the way to my house. They need to be done with it before they get to my house though. No bringing in snacks.

I do not do AM snack since we are eating breakfast 8:30 to 9, then lunch is 11:30-12 so no need for an AM snack.

i do the same thing, we have breakfast at 8:30-845am. I've been serving a very light snack at 1015-1030. Should i not serve a am snack? Maybe that's why they haven't been eating lunch as well! hmmmmm this is making sense now..

we eat at 8-830am, small snack around 1030am and lunch at noon. For my morning snack, its pretty light, but I found that they need it because they start complaining that they are hungry.

All of my kids eat breakast before they come. We make like Hobbits and do second breakfast once everyone is here. No a.m. snack. It ruins lunch.

I have breakfast ready for them in advance so it's a pretty quick deal. Grains/fruit hot cereal and milk. It only takes a few minutes to do breakfast. They gobble the fruited hot cereal in a few minutes.

Stick to your rib breakfast and no a.m. snack works best for us.

We have breakfast at 8:00 and if someone arrives early, they just wait. I am not open until 7:15 so most of my early arrivers are hardly awake enough to eat until 8:00 anyways so it works.

If a child arrives after 8:30, breakfast is the parents responsibility. We also skip the a.m. snack and have lunch then at 11:30.

I quit doing morning snack because they stopped eating lunch. Since we eliminated it, everyone eats a great lunch now. We do a p.m. snack at 2:30-3:00. Everyone goes home by 5-5:30.

I have my serving times in my contract and ask that if parents drop off after meals are served that they have them fed. I serve breakfast at 7:45, if they drop off after 8:00 they need to have the child fed already.

AM Snack is at 10:00 (never something super heavy, they still always eat lunch)

                        Lunch is at 12:00

PM Snack @ 2:45 (after nap)

My first comes at 6:30 and I serve breakfast at 8:15 (to be sure to finish before the bus arrives for my special ed kids). We have lunch at 11:30 and have never in two years heard a "I'm hungry" between breakfast and lunch. My kids are too busy getting into the toys and starting their day to be hungry before breakfast either. Most of the time they whine when I say its time for breakfast. We have snack at 3 (most kids leave at 3:30- YIPEE!) and my family eats at 6. Rarely have food wasted at any meal. I think they need time to get hungry, feeding kids every 2 hours (except infants) is uneccessary.

We're on the food program, so for the hours we're open our group has to have breakfast, snack, lunch, and snack again. We do breakfast around 8:30 or 8:45, am snack at 10:30, lunch around 12 or 12:15, pm snack around 3:15 or 3:30. The children do not have time to get hungry, so they don't eat much. Plus since they're not even hungry they take their time about getting to the table to eat (making for a rough transition), then waste most of their food. I wish we could eliminate am snack since it's more of a hassle for us and a money waster, and the children aren't even ready to eat that soon after eating breakfast anyway. But...
