The Last Thing We Need Right Now...

is another horrible provider story. The unregistered parent who started the thread titled "Provider's Spouse" yesterday will probably think that beer was pretty mild once she reads this story. And this was going on inside a center!

BTW, kudos the to the lady from the competing daycare who went there to hand out fliers to the parents who were in a bind. She's a smart business woman

Yeah, I saw that a couple days ago...

What gets me is the parent who said: "It's crazy, I don't know where I am going to send my kids now. This was convenient for me" when asked what she thought about the daycare being shut down....

My statement would have gone a bit differently....

Stories like this (and the fire in TX) are precisely why I decided to be a SAHM. Actually the summer of 98, I moved to Cedar Falls IA after HS graduation, got pregnant, and there happened to me a large amount of stories on the news of DCP's leaving infants in hot cars that summer. That is when my decision was locked in stone. So tragic.

So this was a home daycare, if I understand correctly? And she had 10 to 15 children enrolled?! I really hope that's a violation of licensing regs there because that's WAY too many kids for one person to watch!

No, this was a licensed center.

i used to work at a local coffee shop when i had my first son.

there was a girl who worked at a local daycare center who used to come in every morning for her coffee before she went to work.

one morning i went out back to take out the garbage, and found her behind the dumpster getting high. apparently, that was her routine every morning.
so, not only was she stoned taking care of kids, she was driving herself to work, and a danger to everyone on the road.

my boss turned her in, and we never heard anything or saw her again, so i dont know what ever happened to her. but just the tought of it is pretty scary.

I just highlighted that from the article and was going to post it--you beat me to it! For the love of God, what is wrong with people!

This is so heart breaking. To know that a provider could do these things in her home with children. The parents will probably have a hard time trusting their children in daycare again.

Slight hijack...but this goes right along with it...

The main reason I no longer allow anything from home (other than it is a huge pita) was that I found a substantial bag of marijuana hidden under a stack of diapers in a kids bag once. I think the bag was gallon zip-lock freezer size.... No clue to street value.

Had that been found by my licensor, I would have been the one charged....

I turned it over to my next door neighbor (the sheriff) "anonymously" for destruction and waited for the DCM confront me... She never did. (Her child aged out in 90 days....)

The next day I sent home a new policy to go into effect the following month.

The above case did not make the big national news because no child was injured....

Oh, about the sex toys.... I know several women who sell those as a sideline business. It is through a company that markets them the same way Home Interiors, Pampered Chef or Tupperware tupperware does. They have "Surprise Parties" and the surprise is what is on display when you arrive...they are womens only parties.... Now the above story had *****graphy, too, so I don't think in the same realm...

I can't imagine them coming in and finding those in my friends house, now that I think of it.... I bet their headline would read pretty awful...

                        You ladies are so funny.

The only real problem with the toys and magazines were that they were found in a daycare CENTER!!! In the areas where the children play!!!

As a parent, I wouldn't even bat an eye at knowing that my HOME daycare provider had items like this in her bedroom or any other rooms that were NOT daycare areas! Even if she had *****graphy in her home, that's her business as long as the children are never exposed to it or have access to it. So long as her activites are legal - I couldn't care less. If I can trust her to be honest and professsional with me and be loving and fair with my kids, I would be happy.

Since this was a center though, it is a MAJOR red flag that these items - even though they are legal -were found there at all! I would pull my kid immediately.

for sure!!! I think it said they found this stuff in the play rooms?

                          either way.

has anyone else noticed, that usually when you look at these peoples mug shots, or pictures that go along with the articles, they just scream at you, "don't trust me near your child!"????

I don't know, I know it's not right to judge books by their covers, but some people just have a look to them. And I want to also state, that I have NEVER NEVER EVER EVER NEVER EVER been wrong so far about my first impression of people. Sometimes I've given benefit of doubt or something and still been right. Like even as example the dumb dumbs with the deposit that they cancelled on me, I should've gone with my instincts but I didn't. That was my mistake though.

Even a family member (extended family, not blood or nothing), has the look of pedophile to him. It creeps me out. He is also a huge computer nerd. And I swear, he is the guy in chat rooms pretending he's 15 y.o.g. just to chat with girls. Whether it's true or not, that is my gut instinct, and I would never allow him near my children alone. I pray I'm wrong.
