We use one similar to the one Cat Herder posted at home.
The one I have at daycare works best for town as I tried the more expensive one at daycare but it picked up cars driving past two blocks away.
I just want to know when some one is at MY house. Not the neighbors. ::
I use Ring.com. Love it. I can talk to the person - or not even let them know I'm home. It records, I can email or text the video. I can get notifications even when I'm out of state. Can't say enough about them. Oh, and their customer service is great.
I have the one bc linked for my door. It lets me know when some one gets to the door. I don't use it much anymore because I have ring but I do recommend it for a cheap, quick temp or permanent solution.
I have mighty mule driveway alarm for my long driveway it lets me know when someone pulls in, including but not limited to inspector, food program and deliveries. https://www.mightymule.com
my boss has arlo at the end of the driveway and also on the playground by the door. We love it, she can watch on her phone whos comming in. Her phone will ping when someone comes into view. Even better? She can talk on it! Its totally creepy to hear her voice out of no where when im outside with the kids (and then standing there chatting back to her through the camera)

:: It’s amazing what technology is today.
I’m a 70ies-80ies kid ...I still remember party lines and landline phones with the super long cords... wireless anything (especially video) is really cool but definitely creepy at the same time. ::
