EMS Calls

Has anyone else heard this?

I live in OK and was told that if I called the EMS that I was responsible for the bill. I have put in my contract that the parents will be held responsible for the bill if EMS had to be called, this was the only thing I could think of to add to the contract because the contract states this is a legal and binding agreement.

I don't know about your state or even here in TX. I worked in a licensed child care center and whenever EMS was called, I believe the daycare's insurance covered it.

I could be totally wrong on this though. We never received a bill so either the parents never bothered to bill us or like I said the insurance kicked in.

Then again, we never had a contract so I would think if it's legally binding it would fall onto the parents responsibility.

All I know is that I was advised to add a clause in my contract stating who would be responsible for the ambulance bill should one be required.

That is what I was told because that was the way to cover yourself. If the child is stung or something and allergic to it and ambulance needs called they don't have insurance we were told we were responsible for it because we are the ones that called. So if it is in writing and the parents see it.

Sounds to me like the perfect recipe to make a person to avoid calling EMS in an emergency situation, and have a child or person die for fear of getting a bill.


Now, if the parents don't have insurance and don't have any money, you're still stuck with the bill, but you got a piece of paper that says you're not. Either way, you're SOL.

I completely understand what you are saying. It is just confusing because even if the parents don't have insurance the kids should have it thru the state. I really don't know I am going to contact DHS this morning and see what is said. I personally would not, not call EMS and let someone die I cannot do that. I have to call that is just cruel just because they don't have insurance.
