    My Program is Probably Closing

The (private religious) school I work at is in a bitter battle between the Church and the School Board. The financial situation is somewhat grim. This means budget cuts and possibly staff reduction at best, or closing the school at worst.

I have offered to put my job on the chopping block and have my hours cut, salary switched to hourly, or take on more duties in an effort to keep the school open.

Unfortunately, the leadership is bucking for a padded paycheck and it will absorb my job if it passes.

I am very sad about the dissillusionment that I am feeling right now. The one person you should be able to trust to be humble and concerned should be your pastor.

    Very sad times here indeed.

I'm going to be very cautious with my answer. Which is unlike usual. I normally blurt out my thoughts without weighing everything. I am going to be vague and impersonal in my response. Not because I do not care but because I've lived both sides of the pulpit and it's equally as hard on both ends. Yep. Preachers kid here. I married into it. I hope for you that things grow into a new exciting adventure you love and I hope others follow the path of their leader not of their flesh.

I am in no way trying to ignite a religious debate.

That being said, I shouldn't have added a sentence or 2 onto my original post.

It just seems that when the leader himself is following the path of flesh... nevermind.

New adventures, here I come. I'm good until about summertime, end of school. That's plenty of time to seek out new prospects and places to spend my sundays.

I don't think you did, I think we are all saddened when the people we look up to and aspire to be like let us down. Sometimes it is hard to remember they are just as human and prone to mistakes....

It does not just happen in religion, it just seems to hurt more when it does, YKWIM?

Don't let one bad experience deter you.... Trust there is a reason and a new path in front of you..

I do apologize I was misunderstood. When I said follow path of leader,.... I meant the big guy. Not the pastor. :-)

So true. My DH is a pastor, used to work in a warehouse. He was highly disappointed when he found some of the same problems at both places, he thought working in a church with fellow Christians would mean everyone would always "act" according to their beliefs. But we (and I mean me too) are not "there yet", and won't ever be in this world. But, we do need to strive every day to get there.

As a pastor's wife, I would ask that you remember that your pastor is human too. And if he's doing the wrong thing, or headed down the wrong path...CALL HIM ON IT!... sorry for shouting, but pastors need correction and words of wisdom from others too!

Sorry you're going through this, and know that the path ahead of you is even better than the one you will leave behind!

Have you considered opening your own home daycare???

Thank you all for your kind and wise words.

                      MomofSix,
I would love to open a home daycare, but I'm afraid the pay wouldn't cut it with Southern California's cost of living. I can always fall back on the work I used to do in the real world, but man oh man, I love this job!

It will be fine. My DH has said that I can go to work part time for now, and keep my outside interests that help pay bills (furniture restoration and resale). I know I'm far from the only one who's job is on the line, and I'm blessed to be in the position I'm in. I am glad I have this place to come to. I know I won't stay away.

Have you considered getting a flea market booth, in a local daily flea market and doing this? It is VERY poplular in my area. Hit the yard sales/craigslist/freecycle for the furniture and then resell it.

When we lived in SoCal (in NorCal now) we decided (over much worry) that I would stay home after the birth of our second child. We cut wayyyyy back and moved into a mobile home in Long Beach. I ended up having to sell my horse which broke my heart but you know what? God provides! Not only was I able to stay home, but we moved up here and I found a horse to ride for free! I was able to homeschool til my kids were in second grade...a dream come true. California is expensive...but maybe a way will be made if you follow the Leader as someone else said. You never know what may transpire! You have God given talents...use them...for His glory!
