    Dropping Like Flies - Adenovirus?

I posted the same information in the mottled skin thread, but wanted to start it's own thread so everyone will be more willing to read it.

I heard that pink eye is the last symptom to come in effect from this virus/bug that has been affecting everyone non stop since winter started.

Coincidentally, I happened to come across a virus called Adenovirus in my research. While reading all the symptoms that this can cause, being there is an entire family of adenoviridae (serotypes), that cause everything from common cold to pneumonia to pink eye, it seems to fit quite well.

It is also transmitted through water vapors as was suspected with the fog machine!

I wonder if this is what is hitting everyone, since I've seen other people post about the pink eye other than me!

I know that my friend and I ran to walmart to pick up more pink eye drops yesterday, and there was only 3 left, and we grabbed 2. It has hit big time, everyone is getting it weeks apart from each other.

I want to say that we have been doing the treatment of drops for my entire family (5 of us), and it appears to not be helping. We are on day 5 of treatment, and our eyes are still much the same, and the drops seem to irritate it more. The redness has disappeared, but the goopage has become worse. I was thinking that it's not actual bacterial, and that it was viral, and that it has to run it's course. I am trying to get into a doctor asap but seems to be proving impossible.

I plan to post this post as well into a new thread, and I hope everyone is willing to read and comment. It will require you to research adenovirus a bit, and see if it sounds like the same stuff your kids (maybe yourself) have been seeing/feeling/suffering from.

I'm old school and don't believe in drops. But how about doing a home remedy.
      boil water
let water cool (pour in cup)
put salt in it (I don't stir it)
take cotton ball and dip in solution
wipe eye one way, get another cotton ball and repeat.
do this 3 times a day.
      works good

I'm sorry you are dealing with this! I LOATHE pink-eye! It swept through my DD's daycare when I was still a working mom; and it took months for us to be rid of it. I caught it, and kept getting it again and again before I realized it was in my makeup. I had to throw away all of my makeup and start from scratch (EXPENSIVE!). That finally did the trick. UGH. Fortunately, I haven't heard of anyone suffering from these symptoms in our area.

yeah makeup and everything else must be thrown away.

I might try your way country mom although we are almost done the drops and I just opened a new bottle, so don't wanna throw away a full bottle

As for the symptoms, I'm going to check with my doctor, because like i've mentioned in other posts, as soon as one illness/symptom fades out, the next one fades in. It's not like, get over one, wait a few days/weeks and get a new illness. It's all in one. I pray this is the last one.

Some kids have stomach aches, then coughs, then bladder infections, then coughs again, then flu, then pink eye. It's just never ending cycle of something.

sounds also like you have a "eye cold" sounds like you may need antibiotics for a cold instead.

Everyone that i talked to has the "pink eye".

Family in another city that we haven't been in contact with. Family we have been in contact with. All members of my household. Child's friends. One dcg I have does not have it "yet". Kids from other schools have it. Children in other daycares who aren't school aged have it. 6 kids out of my daughters dance class last night didn't attend because of pink eye.

              It literally is everywhere!

We also were swimming a few weeks ago in a hotel pool filled to the brim with kids, and it was EXTREMELY over chlorinated water, burned our eyes for 3 days after and ate through a bathing suit that wasn't rinsed properly.

pinkeye outbreak in my household was the night we had swimming lessons last thursday. kids got out of pool red eyed, just assumed it was from chlorine, and then realized afterwards it was not.

                  Update...

My families eyes are all clear.

Kids have cough again. One coughed all through the night.

                  GREEN boogers.

UGH!!!! My kids are all getting vitamin c's along with their vitamins from now on. And I'm tempted to start giving them garlic and echinacea (SP?) as well. Winter is almost over thank goodness, but next year I am not doing this again.

I'm going to get started next week on our bubbles.....We are going to live in bubbles next year.

Vitamin D supplements too, especially if you live in an area that doesn't get much sun in the winter months. Vitamin D is one of the BEST things you can boost to help you not get sick in the winter.
