    Avalanche!

We moved into our house in August so we're still learning the "quirks". It's not the prettiest house in the world, definitely a fixer upper, and I get insecure about what potential dcps will think of it. The inside is just fine, quite welcoming and wonderful actually! It's just the outside that will take some time to fix up. It hasn't been a problem yet, as no one has said anything, but we're not to a point where I'm proud of the outside yet.

Anyway, this morning as I came downstairs to let my dogs out, I discovered a new "thing" that I'm going to have to be conscious of. We live at the base of a bluff, with the edge of it being sandstone. We had a bit of an avalanche sometime last night! The alleyway that goes along the side of the bluff, which is where the dcps drop off and pick up was blocked by huge rocks!

Now from the looks of it, this will not become a risk to anyone or a liability issue, but I'm not too thrilled with the inconvenience of the whole thing! I tried to move the thing by myself, unsurprisingly without any luck, so the city was called.

Grrrrrr!!!!! If it isn't one thing, it's another! Just had to share my random new discovery!

I don't think I'd like finding that in the morning. i bet your view is gorgeous though. Can you ask the city how often rock slides/falls happen so you can plan?

It is beautiful. I love where I live! I've been looking out my window hoping to catch the city worker and intend on asking him. The neighbors should know too.

You might check City Hall. They have all kinds of maps for the city that show potential geological dangers; flood map zones, maps that show the composition of the soil at each location, etc... They may have an "avalanche risk" map since the city has a bluff of sandstone.

Good idea. Well the city guy came out with a bulldozer/scoop and is taking care of it. It's pretty cool to watch and now I've got a lesson for the day. The kids are very entertained! ::::

I love how kids are so entertained with construction/bulldozing! I live in a fairly new development, and there are still open lots here and there. At one time there were two houses being built just five houses down. The kids loved to stand out there (at a very safe distance of course), and watch the construction going on. We would talk about how today they are building the foundation, or pouring the cement (their favorite), etc...

Good luck with your research! Hopefully what happened last night was a rare event!
