    Biggest Daycare Issue!

Is Cold and Flu season a huge concern and panic for you guys each year? Or are there other issues in your opinion that are a bigger headache than that?!

Snow usually. We have snow in the forecast for Thursday. It is early for the year. Supposed to be 8 inches. I will have to close in order to keep from being stuck with kids that parents wont be able to come and get.

My biggest daycare issue is the STATE/QRIS draining me which is number ONE, but weather-related, it is the threat of Tornadoes here; just had an outbreak last week. We follow the school system when it comes to tornadoes. In snow, the clients make a decision while I am nice and cozy in my home...If we are rendered without power due to ice, which we get alot of, we close as well, but the snow doesn't really bother me.

My group is very young, yet I only have 1 kid that seem to get sick a lot so I would say no that's not my biggest issue.

My biggest issue has to be either the undersized dollar store diapers, or watching the parents take whatever their precious toddler dishes out, without implement corrective actions:dislike:

Biggest daycare issue? Things that are affecting the kids such as lack of sleep, non-parenting parents, parents who are in denial.
Current dcm is in complete denial about her ds's behavior. Maybe he's bored in school, she says, because he can do higher grade math(he's in prek)?? I haven't seen that but ok.

Do you wonder/hope that they just don't like to discipline in front of you because that may make them look like a bad parent (in their eyes, not mine)? I tell my husband often that I wish parents would correct their child in front of me when needed, so I know they are at least trying.

I wish that was the case at least these kids would get some parental structure, but that would take work and consistency so I doubt it!

I tell parents straight up the only time they are judged in my house/daycare is when they DON'T step up and discipline/redirect their child.

For me the biggest headache in this profession is the 3 different definitions of what this job really is:

My perspective is VERY different than DHS's perspective and parent's perspective is an even different one.

If those three viewpoints could find some common ground this job wouldn't be so (fill in the blank).

My biggest problem is with the parents and their lack of parenting. Some of the things that come out of their mouths are so stupid and hilarious. I could write a book.

                    Well, that's annoying!

Luckily I haven't had any complaints...at least not to my face I guess I did have one dcm make a comment that she had to take the week of Christmas off, but not my problem she doesn't have backup care.
I also do not charge for days when I'm closed, so I better not get any complaints!

You can't please everybody! Enjoy your days off!!

The worst is the guilt you have when you have to take a sick day. My yearly alottment runs from January to December and I get 5 paid sick days and 5 paid personal days. I structure it that way because I use nearly all of them from September to December and then January to March. Essentially it gives me 10 paid sick days during cold and flu season. This year I have used 2 already for one flu in September. Not feeling the best today but am suffering through to save my days...thank God for napping kids and tv on thise days.

Cold and Flu season is a tough one but right now, my biggest problem is kids who haven't had consistent nap times at home. One infant finally just fell asleep and I've got 4 two year olds who haven't slept at all this afternoon because they've been talking, singing, getting off their cots, stomping around in their cribs, etc...keeping each other awake. UGH! This is the most frustrating group I've had as far as napping is concerned.

My biggest issue was with a verbally-abusive parent who retaliated with false reports of abuse to both licensing and CPS after I terminated her contract for screaming and threatening me in my home. She was mad about her late payment fees and mad that I didn't let her into my home 15 minutes before I opened.
