Do You Give References BEFORE The Interview?

I was asked for a list of my references before I did the interview and I told the parent that I require an interview first. Do you all do that? I just don't want my references to be called if they won't be a good fit. Thoughts?

    No

I don't want to waste my references time on a client I may not want to take.

I don't give mine out until the interview and that's only if I think I want to sign the family.

I wouldn't, that doesn't sound right. Why would you call the ref. before meeting with you. Sounds like trouble.

I have never had a parent to ask me for references in the 25 years i have been doing childcare

But I would not give them references UNTIL I had an interview with them.

As I am doing the interview, I have letters of recommdations and some cards that parents have given me during the time I have done daycare for their child, that I will show them to the parents at interview time. I feel it is a good thing to do at the interview time because then the parents know that I am a good provider at the start of the inteview. Then they know a little bit about me and how my daycare is. I think it makes them feel a little more comfortable when they know what I am like also. Also I think it helps them make a decison better after they have read letters from past clients. Then after the interview, if they seem interested, I will give them a list of references to call.

Really! I will always give a list of references to them even if they don't ask. Whether they choose to call them is up to them, but I as a parent looking for daycare would never not ask for references.
