But man, I find it ridiculous that your regs say you even need to post something like that.
I have in my handbook that there is no smoking on site but that's meant to inform parents that nobody here smokes not that I need to tell other families to refrain.
I guess I never even thought about others approaching my door with a cigarette.
I seem to recall we (MN providers) used to be required to post a sign too but when smoking in public places was banned, I think the reg was remove.

I don't know for sure, it just seems to ring true in my head... I've been licensed for 20+ years now so I just don't remember for sure but.....

I would not want that sign in my home so I can understand your hesitation. I love this job (most days) but really loathe it in my home and wish my state allowed it in a second home like BC's state.

        Nope, just posted.

Personally I don't mind the no smoking sign. ( I blame the state and now my in-laws must take their cigarette butts home, instead of leaving them in my yard.)
What I didn't like was the Exit signs.
I have one leaning on the window in the basement and a sign above the my main entrance in the mud room.

What type of daycare do you have? Family/Group/Center?

Evidently we're required to have an exit sign too. Plus a fire extinguisher right near the exit door. I don't have a sign and my extinguisher is still in the kitchen. I'm waiting for a licensing visit so I can argue about it. I have a family home dc. The exit is *right there* and the kitchen is about 12' from the exit. Where do most fires occur? My guess is in the kitchen. And who, once they reach the exit, is going to grab the extinguisher to fight a fire??

A no smoking sign?? Hmmm, have no idea if that's required too. As you can tell, ever since they've changed the state regs. I'm right up on top of them.

Is that something in the new regs? I know that previous regs the basement window had to have an exit sign on it but I've never had one on my main floor for the door. If that's in the new regs I'll get written up for that. I am not putting an exit sign on my foyer door . Who exactly is that sign for anyway my 1 year old kids that can read hahaa

Here, we correct write-ups/violatons on-site.....and our violations are listed online even if they are minor...I don't wanna take that chance.

Yea here too, but I'm not finding it in the regs. Wondering where it is. I know for a basement we had to do it for the window because it's not obvious that a window is an emergency exit, but we've never had to have it for a regular door on the main floor before. I wonder if it's an inspector's misinterpretation.

It's under the fire codes here!

What state are you in? My fire inspector hasn't mentioned that before.

Edit: Oh not your fire inspector, but your fire code in your daycare rule manual?

Fire and licensing monitor it, but it is a fire code and their violations are sent to our licensing monitors. I am in Tennessee! We can't relicense each year without fire and health approval.

I just checked our manual and it says:

"A window may be used as a second exit if it complies with all of the following provisions:
                              (a) Is accessible to children and caregiving staff.
                              (b) Is clearly identified
                              (c) Can be readily opened
                              (d) Is of a size and design to allow for the evacuation of all children and caregiving staff.

So this appears that we'd only need a sign in Michigan at a window if it was used as an exit (provision b). I'm assuming because it's not apparent that the window would be an exit.

I would like to know if in Michigan if this is something that has changed since new regs though. I've had my daycare 17 years and have had multiple inspections and have never had to have one on my mainfloor doors. I really hope that's not something that changed
