I have a dcb who will be 2yr old the end of next month. Boy can only say cup, bye and mom. Now he does know what you are talking about, like I"ll say put your cup in the sink, he does, wash your hands he does, etc. However, yesterday mom said about she needs to work on him on potty training. WHAT! I told her, that I do not know of any boys who were potty trained under the age of 3. I"m sure it happens, but the boys I know (my son included, who is stubborn as a mule) were over 3.
To me, communicating is more important than using the potty. I'm tired of dcb hitting my leg to get my attention, and just pointing at something. I always try to get him to repeat after me. Like, if we are coloring, I will says crayons and sometimes, he will say it back, but only once.
I wonder how they will potty train him as boy's dad does not like the little potties. Dgc who is almost 4(and very small for her age) had to learn on the regular toilet. When she's with me, I tell her she can put the potty seat on the toilet. She did fall in once, because that's how small she is, she hangs on for dear life. After that, she started using the seat.
