    Provider Vacations & Absenses

Please tell me how to make less of a mess with run on sentences.

    Provider Vacations & Absences
The provider will take 5 paid days each calendar year at the regular rate when the daycare must close. Provider will give the client prior notice of vacation time so the client can locate backup care. These days may be taken separate or together and may be used for any personal or family needs, including but not limited to personal or family sick leave, funeral leave, or professional development. The client will not be charged if the daycare closes for additional days.

Just curious...do you give yourself any additional time, unpaid or otherwise to vacations or whatever? 5 days isn't very many. I don't charge for my vaca/sick time, just holidays and I don't give them ANY free days...but I take 10.

not changing any of your policies, with this. I would however put a timeline on notice of days off. I think too that you don't have to justify your days off. Do you have paid holidays?

Yes, I do have 10 paid holidays when I'm closed. What I want to try to say is that I will take 5 days off paid each year and any additional days I close will not be paid. My five days are not necessarily for vacation because I plan to use them for sick days. How do I word my paragraph? Should I have 10 weekdays total off and 5 will be paid....I just don't want to limit myself to the number of days I can take off work. I would like one vacation per year and have flexibility for paid sick days, but want this all in one simple-to-understand paragraph.

I tell parents that I take 2 weeks vacation per year. They are given a list of Paid Holidays as well. All other days that I am closed is unpaid. I have not had a parent complain yet. But I also give them several months notice.

I give them a Parent Newsletter at the first of the month. The first secetion is days off or what ever is going on.

          28 CLOSED

          March
          18th closed

That kind of thing. As soon as I have a date I know for sure it's put in the letter. It gives them plenty of time to find someone. I have had a death and an child in the hospital. But I give them so much notice that when I did the ER thing they were all very understanding. I have a great group of parents.

Not including any paid holidays listed, the provider may take up to 5 paid days each calendar year charged at the client's regular rate. Provider will give the client as much advanced notice as possible of any closings so the client can secure backup care. Provider days off may be taken separately or together. The client will not be charged if the daycare closes for any days above the afore mentioned 5 paid days.

DCMomof3, you have the right idea. It seems wordy and I'm just trying to be as simple as possible. Should I say I will have two weeks off per year, one of which is paid and one unpaid? This is probably as close as I'm going to get, . I know what I want, but I'm stumped as to put it into writing. Thanks for using client/provider keeping up with my terminology. I'm really enjoying using those classifications now after reading things over and over. I want to be able to have my contract and policies memorized by the time I'm done.

5 days paid each year and any additional days unpaid.....do I need to mention I plan two weeks or possibly more or just mentioning 5 days per year and any additional days unpaid is good enough clarification to a parent?
