    Toddler Licking?

Any advice for getting a 16 month old to stop licking everything? She’s not even really licking as much as just hanging out her tongue and resting it on everything she picks up. Teething is one thing, but this is just strange...and icky!

I’ve been just taking away the item and telling her not to do it, but the next item goes right to her tongue. It’s an all day battle! Should I just let her hold on to a select item to tongue all day?

Yes, that's what I would do, and have done. Anytime she starts to lick something you don't want her to just take it away and giver her something you don't mind her licking.

I use a soother or a chewy toy for these types of kids.

I have an 18mth old similar to this. Her tongue is always out. And whatever she holds, she almost mindlessly brings it to her mouth. I mostly have her trained not to do it but when she’s distracted or tired it seems to still happen. One thing that has helped her curb this habit is having her wear a drool bib, one of those bandana style bibs. When I put it on her, I tell her “its ok to put this bib in your mouth whenever you want but don’t put any toys in your mouth.” It actually seems to help a lot and she’ll often play with toys while mouthing the end of the bib.

I’ll try this! I have a million bibs. Thank you!
