Orientation, What Is Covered? MICHIGAN

The title pretty much covers it . My orientation is on the 17th. I have not found much on what is going to be covered. If anyone would like to clue me it I would appreciate it very much.

Mainly you go over the rules. My class get a ratio exercise and I think a safety exercise. We were able to ask questions and have explanations to rules that we didn't understand.

My recommendation would be read through the rules and write down any questions you have on a certain rule and the reference number of the rule.

I think if you go to Michigan website you can search orientation and you'll see the PowerPoint for orientation.

My class worked through lunch and got done early.

I'm geating some conflicting info. I was told that I could take clients after my orientation. Now I am told I have to wait until after my inspection. It seems like the answer changes depending on who answers the darn phone

There is 2 reason for that
1. If you are going for group vs family you need an inspection first.
2. There is a new law that was suppose to go into effect but I was told that there was a delay. This law changes rules for family care making them licensed vs. registered. And making it their inspections beforehand instead of after opening. Plus some other things that change but I'm not sure if it went into effect yet.
So call again and ask if the law went into effect and then ask if you get an inspection before hand.

What about an assistant? When I read the rules book it did not say I am required to have assistant. But I just printed off my orientation check list and it sort of reads like I am required to provide an adult assistant that is CPR first aid trained.

So it sounds like I have to have an employee on call?

I think what you are referring to is the emergency back up person. This person comes to your recuse when you get ill or even a child is ill or any other situation that may need more than one person to handle. This person is meant to be used for unplanned events and basically while you are on site. This person can be left alone with the kids as long as you have called the parents for pick up.

I have three people I have listed to call as back up, however only one is on file with the state but all have signed agreement in my DC binder. I did three because I can not control their whereabouts daily or prevent them from getting sick.

I did not have to prove any CPR or background check on any back up person, including the one that is on file with the state.

I also have my dh as my assistant, he can cover for me if I have to leave early or to sick to care. He does have a background check and CPR (plus the other stuff). But during the day he unavailable for emergency back up, as he works.

Yes it does, thank you. I have put my husband down as my emergency assistant. I mean if there were a serious emergency he would be coming home anyways.

So he will do his CPR class in two weeks and they already have his info on file.

There are different ways to get classes. One is through food programs (even if you don't sign) they have classes you can take, then there is websites (I'll list them later from my computer) then there is great start to quality website and if you sign up for the state email, the state will send you info on classes.
