    Emergency Plans

    Hello All ,

I am a home based daycare located in NYC. Last night a fire happened in the floor above me and now my entire apartment has ceiling water damage . Thank god everyone is okay and no furniture was damaged only some food items perished . I am currently working with the landlords and my own repair team to fix all the repairs as soon as possible, but unfornutaly I am going to have to close the daycare for 1-2 days to make sure everything is repaired properly and no potential mold is left behind.

I notified all my clients of the incidents and also provided the parents another location where care will be provided while the repairs are being done. I also provided parents with an extra 30 mins of care at no extra cost to accommodate for travel at pick up

unfortunately some parents who find that the other location is way to far for them or find it extremely inconvenient for them to travel to that location.

I want to then offer these parents a discount in their weekly fee but I am unsure of how much . Should I offer a percentage off the weekly tuition or should I just discount the fee associated with that day.

I have an emergency childcare plan but unfortunately is very outdated and of course I didn't notice until now .

I hope you guys can help me .

    Thank you

If some parents are that inconvienced then they need to find other care you are doing them a favor by being this nice, its not your fault your house caught on fire and they should be grateful that their kids or anyone else's children were not involved. I can't stand people like that UGH

If you have any personal days in your contract I would use them and close. That is an awful lot to deal with. Sounds like your clients aren't very understanding.
I am glad to hear everyone is ok.

Tough cookies for the inconvenience; the fact you have a back up plan and can still offer care... no discount; I went out of my way 2 years ago during an Ice storm to rent a place for a week that was actually closer to most my families work because my own was literally no heat in -20 weather (due to no power anywhere here for almost 25 miles)... do you think they used me, No, but the fact I was open & available & the reason the daycare facility changed was thru no fault of my own - you betcha I charged without discount. You went out of your way to still open... they should **** it up for a few days & be grateful they have childcare at all

Does your insurance company cover you for business time and expenses lost?
