    Normal 5mo ?

He pukes all the time, he is only here for 5 hours and I always have to change him once if not twice. I used to put a bib on him all the time but he would pull at it..hard. So far he has been here 2.5 hours and spit up 3 - 4 times and I changed his outfit already. He burps just fine. I just dont remember my child doing this.
Mom knows about it and doesnt seem concerned. She isnt feeding him cereal yet either, which is her choice of course.
    Any opinions?

is it spit up or throw up? I have a dcb who is 7 m and when he was about 5 mnths he would puke up an entire bottle of milk. **** it down in seconds flat and then puke. turned out that he was allergic to his milk and parents had to switch it....

talk to the parents about it

Some kids just spit up. A lot. My first DS would go through 6 bibs and 3 outfits a day until around 9 months old then all of a sudden it stopped.

I had one who would do that too. Dcp's switched to a different formula and it got a lot better. It doesn't sound like dcm cares though, so she probably wouldn't switch.

Until my daugther was able to sit up and burp on her own I held her over the kitchen sink to burp her :: She was terrible, I could never really tell how much she was eating because it seemed like most of it came back up. Once she started eating solids and sitting up on her own it all changed.

If it's projectile vomiting the poor little guy could have reflux my oldest had this as an infant and I had to change him like 5 times a day. My youngest would projectile vomit also but it was her formula she needed soy. Even if it is breastmilk he could need to be on soy formula or something Mom is eating making him vomit or it could be reflux Mom should really take him to doc.

I breastfed all 3 of mine, and they were all pukers. It was nasty, but normal. As long as this little one is gaining normally, don't worry about it. However, you'll want to make sure you're covered in receiving blankets or old towels before feeding him, and swaddle him too to avoid having to change him. After burping him (over the sink -- love that idea from PP!), cover him/the floor/seat in a blanket if you lay him down. Prop him upright in a bouncy seat if you're allowed (with it covered with blankets too).

When he starts getting more mobile, the puking will taper off. In the meantime though, make sure you don't feed him on the couch

Also, it just occurred to me -- if you're comfortable with it, talk to the mom about making sure she's pumping enough to get the hind milk. It tends to stay down better and will make him feel fuller so that he doesn't overeat and consequently puke.

                Good luck!

My youngest was a puker. It didn't matter, breastmilk, milk-based formula, or soy. Soy she puked the least, but it was still a LOT. She wasn't gaining weight. Her pediatrician determined she has GERD (reflux issues). She started her on Zantac, and that didn't make a huge difference either. Now she's on prilosec. She is 9 months old and starting to be tapered off the prilosec because with the increase of solid foods. Her weight was down under the 10% and she hadn't been gaining well untill we figured this out. Now she's up to the 25% on her weight (she had a check up yesterday)
Give a little love to a child, and you get a great deal back.

My son had horrible reflux starting at birth. I would nurse and he would scream and scream and push away and spit up and then root around for more. It was horrible. Finally at 6 weeks his doctor put him on zantac and he was a completely different child. He didnt stop throwing up till around 6 months but he stopped screaming all the time. I have eleventymillion bibs because of him and they come in handy with daycare but most of the pics from the first 5 months of his life hes wearing a bib. My poor nanny would place towels around him when she watched him because he spit up so much. Hope this dcb grows out of it soon too. Poor thing
