    De Quervain's (aka Mommy Thumb)

Has anyone ever had De Quervains Syndrome? It's also called mommy thumb. Basically it's similar to tendinitis and causes pain along the wrist and thumb and it's caused by holding babies too often. Anyway, I have a severe case of it in my left hand and I'm managing the overall pain with ice and a wrist support, however I've developed a hard pointy knot on the side of my wrist because of it and that part hurts all the time and looks awful. So my question is if any of you have had this, did you have a hard knot develop and if so, did it go away on its own or was surgery required?

I ended up with a cortisone shot on my thumb when it wouldn't go away. But I've had surgery on my right hand and developed arthritis from it, so according to the doctor I was more prone to get it.
Are you using the hand brace? I would use the one that supported the thumb and the tennis elbow one too. Then ibuprofen round the clock to get rid of the inflammation. It would go away and come back. Eventually I was given the cortisone shot

I'm using kinesiology tape during the day while I have the kids here (to much trouble to remove the brace to wash my hands every time I change a diaper) and then as soon as they leave I put on a wrist support which I sleep in. It doesn't really support the thumb though so maybe I'll try getting one that does and see if that makes a difference. I have a feeling I'll be getting a cortisone shot in the end though.

the cortisone shot hurt! Then my thumb hurt worse for a few days but then the pain went away completely. I would remove it to change all The diapers, then wash my hands and put on the thumb and elbow one too. Definitely wear thevthumb support one when you're sleeping

        Good luck!
