    No Commitment With No Contact?

This might be a dumb question but I need to ask...if there is no contract made between a parent and a care provider, does the provider have any legal recourse against the parent for failure to pay, give notice, etc?

Nope! Although a verbal agreement can sometimes work in court, you really need some documentation.
