I used to offer 1 week "free vacation" to parents, until 2 separate families thought that "free vacation" meant "free child care" for a week.

I also used to have parents pay their regular fees for my vacation, until several families set their last day as the Friday before my paid vacation.

Now I pro-rate my vacation pay into the rest of the year so parents don't bring payment during the weeks I'm closed. And there's no "free vacation" anymore because they've already got 2 weeks "off" from bringing payment.

I had SO many families doing that before paid holidays. It used to tick me off so bad... just to avoid paying me two days at Christmas or Thanksgiving... thanks so much!
I added a clause this year that says if you give notice that ends within two weeks of a paid holiday, you still owe for that holiday and the payment is due immediately upon notice.
        People ****.

I also got to thinking that she is most likely getting paid vacation for that week so why is she acting like she cant afford to pay me? If shes still getting paid then i should still be getting paid.

Good for you! I also give annual contracts which allow me to update policies.

I do give two weeks free with one month advance written notice but I take off a lot of paid time off per year so it was a small token I could give. I do have some checks and balances on the two weeks and a $$ cushion. When I am more established with a long waiting list I will nix the two week free vacation but for now I am paying my dues.

I give 1 week of vacation per year for the families Unpaid if they give 2 weeks written notice of its use and can't be used in December or at Thanksgiving
