How Many Hours Of Napping Is Normal...

    ... for a 14 month old?

Ive mentioned this dcb before... no soothing skills etc. He is a co sleep who obviously doesn't get the sleep he needs.

He arrives at 8 and is miserable. He goes down for a nap at 830. I wake him at 10. He then is miserable until nap at noon. Then he will sleep until 5ish when i wake him when his parents get here. Or, i will wake him at 3 and put him back down at 430 and wake him at 5 when his parents arrive.

I'm sending a letter home stating that he needs to get better sleep and come more prepared for the days in the morning.

What is the typical amount of napping 14 month olds should be good with? The other kids all get 10-12hrs a night and nap for 2.5-3 hrs in the afternoon.

Sounds like he is getting his night sleep with you during the day.

I don't have any suggestions other than to put it back on the parents.

That's what I'm doing but i feel like his parents need specific examples of what they need to do and what im willing to do.

I would tell them what your nap times are at your house. And tell them that if he is tired and sleeping outside those hours, you will send home for not being able to participate.

I like that. Do you think one hour in the morning and 3 in the afternoon are plenty?

            Yes! That's lots.

Hopefully his parents can get his sleep sorted out. Poor little guy.

He already slept a little over an hour this morning. He has barely been awake an hour and literally just fell asleep standing up in the yard.

Sounds like plenty at child care.

I had a good convo with dad about the whole situation and it shed some light on it. I'm hoping they can work things out because this poor kid is so tired

THIS... I have a 5 yes I said 5 year old that goes to bed at midnight and then is here by 7:30am. the child falls asleep daily at the breakfast table, to which I send the child home. Only issue with this family is that the parent (mom) does not work and just gets mad at the child. parents claim the child won't sleep at home....

Your nap times are spot on. Exactly the same amount my daycare kids take.

Poor little guy obviously isn't sleeping at home. Hopefully his parents are listening to you and figure his sleeping habits out.

I'm also dealing with a child who wants to nap all day and stay up once at home. Unfortunately my DC parents won't work with me. I try to keep her awake as best I can so she can participate with the other kids.

I had a cosleeper and it was a nightmare. The child was on the spectrum and coslept at home so it was very difficult to understand what was going on in his situation. I told the mother to stop cosleeping as he was sleeping here 5-6 hours a day (he did this from around 18month to 2.5). I ended up terming him because his mother just would not stop cosleeping and breastfeeding him at night (on top of denial about ASD). She had a baby and the 3 of them were all sleeping together and she was breastfeeding both of them!!

I am all for breastfeeding and cosleeping but when it is interfering with your childs ability to function and socialize during the day it has to stop!
