Favorite Sunblock

The favorite diaper cream thread made me think about..... what is your favorite sunblock and why?

Also do you have parents provide sunblock or do you provide it? Right now I have parents provide it but it would be so much easier to have one type I could use on all the kids.

I don't have a favorite brand as far as the DCK's go and I do make parents supply it.

My only requirement is that they apply the first application prior to drop off in the morning. I re-apply as necessary.

I like the spray kind and if parents ask what I prefer I tell them that but it's not a requirement, just a suggestion to ease the amount of time it takes to apply but either way it just is what it is.

Sun block application and reapplications are simply part of summer.

I prefer CopperTone spray. I have the kids cover their faces with a towel so they don't inhale the fumes.

I prefer Ocean Potion clear zinc oxide for faces.

I use about 2 cans a week during the summer months.

I PREFER a pump spray, but with that article that came out a couple of years ago about it being dangerous for lungs no one sends the aerosol or pump sprays anymore.

I like BabyGanics sunscreen.

I make parents supply a tube of subscreen for re-application OR for them to apply in the AM if they forgot...theres a HUGE sign in the summer to remind them. I also have them supply a face stick tube. I apply the face stick tube to all (again) before we head outside. I don't apply the sunscreen lotion unless we go out in the afternoon (RARE with how burning hot it gets here).

I personally hate sprays as it is super dangerous to inhale the product and it happens to me all the time! I prefer any of the creamy ones.

Like BlackCat, parents put the first dose on as we go right outside and I apply for the afternoon. Sunblock is provided by the parents.

I also dislike the sprays. It hurts when I inhale them, plus with tile floors it makes for a slippy mess. I've tried spraying outside, but then DCK's have to sit for a few minutes for the sunscreen to "take effect" before they can go play.

I prefer lotion for bodies and sticks for faces and ears. Parents supply the sunscreen and most supply the coppertone baby brand.

I also like that with the cream I know where it is going. With the spray I almost always miss spots! And I totally forgot about the slippery grease it leaves on your floor. Hate that!

The parents provide sun screen here. I used to ask for the sprays because they're so easy to apply but once I heard they're not good for the kids to inhale, I stopped asking for them. Last summer, one of my favorite lotions to use was called Pure Sun Defense. It was very smooth and grease-free and rubbed in quickly. Another that was almost as good was Alba Botanica. One parent brought me a tube of it and another parent brought me the same brand in a pump bottle. Both versions were easy to apply. I don't care for lotions that don't go on smoothly or don't rub in quickly. One family brought me Babyganics last year and every day the kid went outside looking like a ghost. It didn't rub onto the skin easily and didn't absorb into the skin easily. He had the same brand of face stick so he looked white from head to toe!

I provide sunscreen. Not particular on brand- I just buy generic from drugstore or Meijer when it's on a good sale. I apply it in the sunroom as we go outside. Spray first (I cover the face with a washcloth) then cream for the face.

I use a no-rub spray for bodies. And each child has a face stick with their name written on it. I have parents all donate a can of spray sun screen to my supply, specifying that it needs to be at least SPF 50. I take them to swim lessons in the summer so we go through a lot. I use the Nutrogena Baby Face stick and so far no one has been allergic.

The babyganics is a physical block and is NOT supposed to rub in. You're supposed to be able to see it on the skin so that you know you have good coverage, and because it's physically blocking the sun, like clothing does. I love it because it generally a lot less toxic and allergenic. I used it on my own kids when they were babies.
