Child Acting Out During Pick Up

15 month old does very well during the day leaving the items on our shelves alone. As SOON as mom walks in the door he runs from her and starts pulling things off the shelves.

He is the last pick up of the day, our room has been cleaned from the day's activities and I read books while waiting for parents to pick up.

How do I solve this? Bye bye outside? Holding his hand during pick up? He hates being restrained and will play limp noodle - does it to mom too so not totally sure what to do here.

I don't want to seem like a snot in front of the parents, but at the end of the day after this child has had 10 hours to play with whatever he chooses too I want him to leave the items on the shelves alone during pick up time.

I have all the kids ready for pick up by the door, parents know I don't tolerate misbehavior during transition so usually we exchange a few words, but at the first sign of child acting up, they simply grab their kid and go...I have strict policies on behavior and all of my families respect that...they are awesome!

I've either done door pick up, or I've blocked access to my playroom at pick up time and only had a few toys out.

Can you go into the entryway and block access to the area the toys are in with a gate, your body in a chair to grab him before he goes by and say, "No thank you! You can come back and play tomorrow!", etc.?

Personally, I wouldn't care if he likes being restrained or not. I like my daycare and it's furnishings to remain intact so.... So my wishes trump his...

I would physically carry him (lying in my arms like a wet noodle if necessary) or by firmly holding his hand and bring him directly to his parent.

I would then transfer PHYSICAL hold to the parent and say firmly "You will need to take Johnny and do NOT let him down/go. He is NOT allowed to destroy the playroom. Here. (hand child to her) I will see you in the morning"

It is your right to speak up and to do so clearly and plainly so DCM knows that this is HER child and it is HER responsibility to restrain him from destroying your playroom. You shouldn't feel like you can't say that.

I cover the toys with a sheet at the end of the day. Then say good night to the toys, see you in the morning.

Unfortunately I can't meet mom at the entryway as there really isn't a separate entry. Once you walk into the door you are in the playroom.

I do like the wording of "No thank you, you can come back tomorrow and play." Because he can. The only restrictions I have on toys/centers is the children must clean up one activity before taking out another. Other than that they can switch activities every 5 minutes if they want.

Kid would be ready to leave and sitting in a chair by the door for pickup. Hand off in two seconds and text mom an important info. I had to do this with a 20 month old for a few weeks. Then we moved to threatening to leave quickly if she didn't calm down to nothing.

I've had good luck saying, "Oh--Jimmy, we're all done with toys today. We've already cleaned up!" This usually prompts the parent to step in.

I'd go this route. I see parents pull into the driveway from the classroom window. When I see them pull up walk DCB to the cubbies, get his stuff on/ ready, and hand him off after DCP walks in.
