I been working here at my daycare center for almost 2 years as a teacher. During the two years i have moved up to closer now. I been told that i am like a head teacher when i am in the backroom and outside from my boss and our most experience teacher. Should i just demand for a raise because i am basically doing what a head teacher is doing, but i am just getting paid 10.75. My brother and friends all told me i should demand one because i am getting the under cut of this deal. All the teachers get paid 10.75 at my site even if they do have 20 plus years of experiences.

Seems you are all being paid equally and I've venture to bet that every teacher there thinks they are doing more work than others. It's just the nature of the business.- Flag

Does a head teacher make more where you are now?
If so I would express an interest in a promotion. Rather than expecting to be treated differently than others in the same position, go after the job that pays what you want.
How much does your brother pay his childcare staff? Do they make more depending on job classification or years of service?
What about PTO or paid vacations?
Does he offset lower wages with more benefits? If so maybe begin working for him or one of his friends in the business?
Although it might be hard to work for your brother or his friends at times, they seem to think you are worth more than current employer is paying.
Good luck to you.I been working here at my daycare center for almost 2 years as a teacher. During the two years i have moved up to closer now. Good luck to you.the funny thing is that at my job we don't have a job title of lead teacher, but my coworker who has been doing this for over 20 years has the responsibilities of a lead teacher/supervision when my boss isn't around.
Heck, they even give me the responsibilities of a lead teacher even tho i dont' have that job position! Now i am in charge of the staffs outside and in the backroom. I dont see how this can benefit me when the staffs outside aren't following rules that we are suppose to enforce. they are really lazy and do the least effort that is require for the job. I had discussed this with my boss and the coworker that has been here the longest. I dont want to be in charge of these people and i dont want the stresses that comes with it because it isn't my job, and i should be the only staff outside to repeatedly tell them day in and day out about the stuff that we can't do! Most of these thing that get our center sited! Lack of supervision is one of the problems that we have here!- Flag

I was never paid much at a center regardless of job responsibilities. Perhaps you can start interviewing at centers who pay more?- Flag

I think the only choice i have is to apply for other job. If you asked me a year ago if i wanted to quit i would tell you i would be afraid, but after everything during these past year i am ready to move on.
Thank you!- Flag

The only answer to this question is YES and ALWAYS. You can't get what you don't ask for!
If they say "no" then start making plans to move. I always ask "what can I do to make sure I can get a raise and what would the timeline be for that?". It shows that you are serious and they can let you know if it is a possibility.- Flag
