    School- Age Children In Care

I am a licensed, in-home daycare provider in Texas. One of my students is turning 5 years old on August 24th, which means he is eligible for public kindergarten. His parents would like him to stay with me and skip kinder. Am I allowed to keep him? I am not certified as a teacher or home schooler. I've searched the minimum standards and haven't found the answer.
I understand keeping school-age kids in after school is fine, but can I have them during the day during the school year?
Thank you in advance for your help!

Kindergarten is not mandatory and kids don't have to go to school until 6 years old. I believe this is true everywhere.

In my state I could keep him if I wanted to. He would not be considered school age though because only kids who are enrolled/attend school are school age and get the slightly more relaxed supervision rules that licensing allows.
I would only consider keeping a child for a "red shirt" year if I felt they truly were not ready for K, and did well in my program. I would NOT make program changes based on the parents decision not to send their child to K when eligible.

If a parent red shirts their child, I usually recommend a full day pre-kindergarten program.
