Potty Training New 2 Year Olds

What do you all say to parents who swear up and down their verbally limited toddlers are fully potty trained at home and you KNOW that's not possible based on their actions at your house. I mentioned the child must be able to ask or verbalize their need to go, be able to get on/off the toilet, and pull pants up/down. Of course they do all of that at home! Well, they do none of that here. The couple times I've tried to sit them on the potty they scream or do nothing. They will sit in poopy diapers with no problem and the youngest barely communicates at all here, but he talks up a storm at home supposedly. I just don't know how to get through that they're nowhere near ready when moms are so adamant they are! Based upon the kids blank stares when it comes to even a mention of potty I'm doubting the parents are working with them at all. Not trying to call them liars but.....

I print out my potty training policy again (because it's in my handbook too) and tell them that I don't start the process here until all the signs of readiness are present here.

    That's it. I don't argue.
If they need to work on educating their child on how to show the signs of readiness at daycare, then that's their next steps. Educate away... at home.

"That is awesome that he is potty trained at home! I wish he would be the same here but home is not daycare so until he can master the following skills (I include my printed potty training policy) he won't be considered trained here. You can definitely start working on these things at home and perhaps that will motivate him here."

What parents SAY their child can/can't do is an entirely different situation in comparison to what they can/can't do at daycare.

Saying the words "X is potty trained." is just that. Words.

The child needs to be able to independently SHOW me specific actions.

Bottom line here is until a child is dry HERE for a FULL two weeks, they are NOT trained HERE.

      It's that simple.
