Pull Ups Or Diapers The Same?

I am thinking would you consider a pull up a diaper? Does the state consider it the same?
Can a bathroom stall be used as a "diaper changing area?" At this point you would just have the child stand while changing and it would be a pull up.

I am in MN here is the rule.

Subp. 11.Diaper changing area.A diaper must be changed only in the diaper changing area. The diaper changing area must be separate from areas used for food storage, food preparation, and eating. The area must have a hand sink equipped with hot and cold running water within three feet of the diaper changing surface, a smooth nonabsorbent diaper changing surface and floor covering, and a sanitary container for soiled and wet diapers.

Subp. 12.Diaper changing procedures.The center must have and follow diaper changing procedures that have been developed in consultation with a health consultant. The license holder must post the diaper changing procedures in the diaper changing area.

Back to the question. Is a pull up a diaper?

I would think it depends::
If the child is using the pull up as a diaper-pooping and peeing in it regularly then I think you should use the diaper changing area.
If the child is able to use the pull up as underwear and is just wearing them as a prevention against accidents, but mainly keeping them dry, I would think you could just pull them up/down in the bathroom and toss one that might be a little wet.

I totally think pull-ups are diapers, only worse because with poop they are much harder to clean up/ dispose of. If the child were potty trained there would be no disposal, changing, cleaning messes, etc. I think it's a grey area though, some will agree with me, others won't. What is your reason for the question? Are you hoping to have a more relaxed bathroom procedure if you don't have to call them diapers?

Diapers are much more absorbent, where pull-ups are less absorbent and will leak if being used like a diaper.

I dont let kids wear pull ups until they have the ability to tell me that they need to go to the bathroom.. I use pull ups over underwear.....

I dont like pull-ups but I really dont like pee and poo all over my house!!!!!

I was just wondering. I work in a center and we request that children be potty trained in preschool but we have had kids in the past that were not and they were in a pull up. Who knows what the future holds? Next year I would hate to be potty training in preschool.

At my former center- in order to be in the preschool room (my room) the child had to be completely potty trained. It was ok for the occasional accident but no diapers/pull ups.

We once had a mom call for a 4 year old (yes a 4 year) not potty trained. At all. Not even going to the bathroom. My former director stated yes we would take the child but he would have be in the 2 year old as I don't have a changing station in the preschool room. Mom was offended and she hung up on my former director ::

Back to the question. Is a pull up a diaper?

At my former center pull-ups were considered diapers. They could not be placed in an open trashcan. Meaning if you were in the bathroom you couldn't toss a slightly soiled in the trashcan (unless its closed). You had to place the pull-up in the trash can by the changing area.

IMO Pull ups are diapers. That is why I REFUSE(D) to train a child in pull-ups. For nap time and night time only. If the child has 2 accidents in a short time period then back in a diaper they go. Try again another time. Sometimes it takes a child to FEEL the wetness or the BM in order for them to realize that its not comfortable.

I'm not a fan of pull-ups at all and my sisters avoided them with their children. It was diapers to undies just like that. I don't like how half the daycare parents buy pull-ups and the children insist on pulling them up themselves when they only end up rolling the pull-up so much as they pull it their legs that it doesn't do it's job! It's much more difficult to work with as far as changing it too.

I consider it a diaper, it's sold in the diaper section.

When I worked in a center here in MN the rule was if they were in a pull-up they could be changed in the bathroom if only wet, but if they had a bm you had to take them into the toddler room and use their changing table. We didn't have a changing table in the preschool room.

I pretty much change everyone in the bathroom when they can stand and only use a mat for bms.

I have wondered the same thing! I finally asked before an assessment one year, and they told me if the kid is in pullups, to treat them like underwear. So in other words, if they have a wet/dirty pullup, I should take them to the bathroom and throw it away without having to do the 10 step diapering routine...If they are only wet, that's what I do. If they've pooped, they go to the changing table and we do the 10 steps. Annoying, but better than having poop in the floor.

10 steps??? TEN? Really? I'm having a hard time coming up with more than 4 or 5...
