    Itching For Information!!!

A daycare center opened down the road from me and i'm dying to know what they charge! I called and asked if they had openings for a 13 month old (that's my sons age) and they said they were full so I asked "how much would a slot be for that age, do you have a waiting list?" and they said no waiting lists and the price of the slot wasn't an issue since the slots were full.

    BAH!!! I need info!

I would have your dh call. Ask their prices and capacity. How large are their class sizes, what curr. Do they use etc. If they ask, be honest,. I saw you opened in my work route and was wondering. That he was thinking he may Need care that he has care now but in this economy you never know how long it will last and that he was keeping an eye on options.

I wonder what would happen if you approached them in a different manner. Call and ask to speak to the director. Tell her you operate a home daycare and see if she would be willing to share their rates with you. The center in our town is very open with home provider's because the director figures we cater to completly different people. Who knows, they may be willing to share, though they could also tell you where to go....

Or tell them who you are,... Explain that you have been getting calls and don't have room but before you refer you need details. It could be an excellent idea to become friends.

i called 3 centers and 5 home daycare...I'm appalled. The centers seemed ok but the home daycare people were awful! I asked one how much a full time spot would be for a 13 month old and she said "depends on how much i have to keep up with them, is the baby walking?" I said yes, that he's a very steady walker and she replied "Well that changes things a bit, if i have to keep an eye on him all the time that will cost you more" I was thinking what if he couldn't walk, you know he would be in a exercauser or playpen ALLLLLL day! Then she says she charges $100 a week, same as me, and she said she used to be licensed for 12 kids and decided to do away with the hassle of licensing and just watch 8 or 9 kids unlicensed!! I asked if she kept neices or nephew or anything and she said none of the kids are related to her...we can watch FOUR unrelated kids in TN and she has 8 or 9!!!! I asked what they're day was like and she said, and i quote "a little of this a little of that, the older ones play in my room and watch tv, the little ones stay in the living room and play alone"

          good god!

Cillybean, did you try to google the new daycare center? Do they have a web site? If they didn't have any infant openings, have your husband call or another friend call and ask if they have openings for toddlers/preschool children. If they really do require you to go in to check it out, you could always have your best friend go with their child and report back to you. LOL

We get calls all the time at our center for people wanting information. I get off the phone and say it was a snooper, LOL. I have also been asked to call new places as well to get information. When I call I say, I saw your sign on my way to work and I am wondering your hours and your rates?

Watch for an open house at the new daycare center. That would be a great time to go an snoop.
