    Fire Rated Door

    Hello,
I just had my first ever inspection...from the fire marshal. I need to get 7 smoke alarms, a carbon monoxide detector and a fire rated door. Looking for all suggestions to make this as cheap as poss!!! I have been looking at prehung doors bc I'm assuming I'm supposed to have a fire rated frame as well. These doors are about $250...plus I need to get it installed. I thought about trying to locate a used one somewhere but no luck. All help would be Appreciated!

For the door, it all depends. There are fire proof doors, then there are fire resistant doors. I had to install several fire resistant doors for a group home a couple years ago. The ones we installed were rated for 20 minutes and we left the original wood frames there. We just swapped doors and they passed the inspection.

Do your smoke alarms have to be wired, or are you allowed battery operated?
