    12 Month Old Throwing Toys

I am embarrassed to ask this.

I have a 12 month old who is starting on Monday. Mom told me he likes to throw everything. 12 month old's big brother is with me and told me at home they laugh when 12 month throws. Obviously this is a behavior I am going to have to break here.

So, when you have a young child who throws, how do you handle it?

So my nephew did this when I watched him. His parents thought it was so funny he could throw. I have a large gated area filled with soft toys he could throw to his heart's content. If he threw toys, he went straight in there and I told him those were his throwing toys. Of course it's very boring to throw toys that don't make a loud noise or hurt so he would get bored quick and ask to come out. He learned very quick!

I do the same as the pp also if I'm I step out of the room to prep lunch or do a bum change I put the child in their till I can trust them. My area is just a superyard in the coner that I mostly use for my DS who's 10 and the youngest in the room .

This is a good idea. I don't have a gated area, but my classroom is separated into areas by rugs. Perhaps I will put some soft toys in a specific area and place him there when he throws.

I bought wool dryer balls for the children to throw. When they throw other things I redirect them to the dryer balls. Having soft toys and a specific area for throwing are great ideas too.
