    Sick Provider

I haven't been feeling very well today but I thought I would just tough it out. I recently took my temp and have a fever of 101. It's almost nap time and I'm not sure if I should contact the parents. I think I'm fine to have them until pick up but I'd like the parents to be aware that I do have a fever so they can make the decision to pick up or not. My mom does live right across the street so maybe I can see if dcp would be okay with them going over there after nap? I don't get sick very often!

Ugh! It's hard when you get sick too!

I try hard to observe my own illness policy though and close whenever I have any of the excludable symptoms listed in my illness policy.

I know it's tough to manage sometimes but it's just part of this job. I also don't give parents the option because if you do, they will automatically think that if their child gets the same symptoms as you, they won't keep them home or balk at keeping them home because they caught it from you anyways so....

I'd notify parents, have them pick up and then get some rest in anticipation of being better so you can re-open refreshed tomorrow.

    Feel better soon!

Thanks blackcat! I keep feeling worse and just threw up a few minutes ago! I only have 2 kids today and both moms have met my mom before so I was thinking about seeing if they would be okay if my mom came over here and I went over there to her house. I'm legally unlicensed in my state so it would be okay if parents agreed.

If I were you, I would decide whether I'm well enough to get to the end of the day (perhaps your mom can come and help) but I would not leave anything up to the parents

        Get well soon:hug:

I agree. Also...I don't know how your families feel about illnesses, but if it were me, I'd much rather be called so I could take my child home early with the hope that he or she wouldn't catch what you have. I hope you feel better soon.

If I had your situation then I'd have my mom come over for the remainder of the day and I'd go lay down and rest.

I have done this myself. My DH will come home from work, I text the parents and I go to bed. Fever and barfing means they need to pick up immediately. If I have a bad migraine the kids stay until pickup.

I texted the parents and they were all very understanding and came right away! One DCM even offered to go buy medicine for me! I just felt bad because I never get sick and so I'm used to not ever asking parents to pick up early. These families are decently new as well so I thought they might think this will happen often. I have taken medicine and still currently have a temp of 102, it did get up to 103 at one point. I think I'm going to take the day off tomorrow so I can get some more rest! Thanks all for the advice!
