I need advice on green slimey gunky noses. I have a child who has been here all week long. I can easily use up half a box of kleenex on him alone. When I mention it to mom and dad they say it's just a cold. I have to say it's really disgusting. I understand it's the cold and flu season, but I've always been told green gunky stuff means virus other than just cold. Any advise on what to do would be great.

Here is an earlier thread on this subject, maybe you'll find something helpful there
Daycare Center and Family Home owners, Directors, Operators and Assistants should post and ask questions here.
I've heard that about the thick green mucous as well, but it never seems to last long enough to be a real problem at my house. Hopefully someone here will have more useful information for you.- Flag

Is the child showing any other symptoms? I had a 3 yr old DCB who had a very thick green runny nose that was so gross that I almost puked. DCB was not able to blow his own nose yet, so DCM brought me a nose syringe. Talk about a mess.
Anyways, after almost 3.5 weeks when it did not go away, I told the mom it looks like his body is not able to fight off whatever it is that he has on it’s own and needs to see a doctor so that the doctor can decide if his body should still try to fight it off alone or decide to prescribe him something to help fight off the infection.
It turned out that he had an extreme sinus infection and ended up on antibiotic for 21 days. The mom was a little embarrassed about it.
As the provider, I think its ok for you to tell the parent that at some point the child needs to see a doc if the childs body cannot fight off the infection on its own..
Good luck- Flag
