Schools and Halloween

Our local school district is very anti Halloween. Some of the schools get around it by having a literacy day. The kids can wear costumes related to a book. Some spend a couple of weeks working on a literacy project to go with it.

Some schools have a short fall party.

My grandkids' district allows costumes and has serpentine parades to go along with parties.

I have one dcg who's school doesn't allow costumes or a big party. Can anyone guess what she's been like this morning?

Our schools are closed for Halloween! It's a development day. My son's school does a dress up day before the Halloween day off. It's not called Halloween or about Halloween - they just dress up in a costume if they want, no masks, no weapons, no gore allowed. They have special dress up days once a month away for "school spirit" days so this is rolled into that.

I don't see it as anti-halloween. I like that they don't do holidays. We went as a family yesterday to a Halloween event. It was really fun - I'm not anti! I just don't like it in school. I don't know why logistics? Sugar blasts? Kids who don't fit in with it because of culture or religion? I'd rather do my thing of my own choosing (as a parent)... Idk. Lots of different viewpoints on holidays on school, I suppose.

My dd attends a Catholic school - they have a 1/2 day and a Halloween Parade. There are clear rules on attire. I have to say the entire 1/2 day is just celebration so in some ways it would have be nice to have the day with my dd - especially since it would have been a three day weekend.

The local public school is closed for a development day. I am planning to follow the public school calendar for my program

The school's here so seem to celebrate it a lot. My son's Catholic school held a Halloween bash fundraiser for the kids to attend Friday night. Monday was their parade and party. I thought the teachers were brave actually. There held the party first thing in the morning, then the kids switched to their uniforms and had a normal school day. (All sugared up I assume.)

Here the schools encourage it. They wore their costumes to school Friday. They had spooky family science night last Monday which I took the dcks on a field trip to. They also had a fall festival Wednesday and Thursday. The city does a harvest day where all the downtown businesses give treats and candy too. Last week was exhausting in that we had 3 field trips. Personally I'm glad its over.

I ended up with 3 costumes for my 5-year-old as the week before it was dress as a community helper day. He chose to be a MD. Spooky science night they were to dress as a mad scientitst. Then for Halloween he chose to be a pirate. Yep, very glad it is over!
