    Eyelid Infection

My 5mo dcb has had an issue with his eyelid for two straight months. The doctor blew the parents off last month, but I'm going to ask them today to take him back again.

His eyelid is not at all puffy. There is no discharge from the eye itself. The eye itself is not red.

He has an irritated patch the circumference of a pea on the upper eyelid, a couple of millimeters above the lashes. Sometimes it almost heals up, but then it goes back to angry red, with a crust. At its worst, the skin cracks and a tiny line of blood appears.

Is this something any of you have seen?

It's not ring worm is it? I'm sure it would have spread, but that's what came to mind!

      Could it be eczema?

Or impetigo? It tends to crust, almost heal, then get red again. It is contagious too.

Does it sound like it could be something like this?

Possibly--one photo of it looks similar to what he's got. The specialist never gave them an appt. I just texted the parents to let them know it's got discharge now, his eye is crusty, and he needs to stay home tomorrow unless they get a doctor's note.

I don't think it looks like conjunctivitis--just that the patch got really raw and the eye got crusty from it during his nap. Tear ducts and edges of lids at lashes look fine, no redness to eye itself. Otherwise, I wouldn't have given them the option of a note.

I have a child with pityriasis rosea. He had FIVE trips to the doctor because everyone was convinced he had ringworm. It's not ringworm, but it sounds kind of like what you describe.
