School Bus Stop Policy

Do you have one?

I don't have any school age children and I live off a busy road. My neighbors let me know the bus stops on the same side of the road (so kids do not have to cross the busy street)and at the end of the driveway.

I'm thinking I'll reach out to the school district to confirm and find out what general times the bus stops by in the AM and PM so I can include it in my handbook.

I'd like to have a policy for this, outlining that the kids will wait inside the front door or on the front step, but never at the end of the driveway, what will happen if the child misses the bus, protocol for if a child doesn't show up at the scheduled time at the end of the day.

Anything else I should make sure I cover? Or keep in mind?

Make sure the bus company allows the kids waiting at the door. My son's bus company will only pick up the kids from the corner. Unless they are right at the stop the bus won't wait for them to get to the bus. Our buses are on a tight schedule to pick up the Elementary, middle and high school kids with 3 different starting times. Our bus company request kids be at the stop 10 minutes prior to the buses arrival incase the bus arrives early.

Thanks, if not at the door, then they wouldn't be far from it. The road we live on is 55 mph and our house is one of the closer ones to the road. The bus stops at the end of our driveway - there is no way any kids would be allowed to walk along the road to reach a stop. No sidewalks, barely any shoulder, and drivers are terrible - my mailbox (well, currently lack there of) is proof of that!

Our bus also picks up at the end of my driveway .

I have a school age / before after care sheet that is specific to kids who will ride the bus .
I do not transport any school ager to school , if they don't get here before the bus then that is up to the parents . If the bus does not arrive at all then I call the parents to decide how to get their child to school .
