I thought this would be interesting for some....I am personally a no tv Monday - Friday home and still limit on the weekend for myself and my school age dd but I know not everyone is.

I'll be the first to admit I used to sit and watch Barney with my dds when they were little but if anybody had made me sit through Teletubbies or Dora, I would've shot the television.
I've been basically a no TV dc for several years now(dropped cable but would let them watch maybe a 15 min. dance or sing along video 1-2x a month. Now I have NO TV whatsoever and I have to admit I do miss it from time to time. Especially around holidays when you can pull out the classics.
But I really don't think it's something a young child should have much of. Many of my dcks go to bed with tvs on in their bedrooms or glued to their iphones playing games. How do you think they sleep?? Wth ever happened to cuddling together, reading a book, saying good night and shutting off the light with the sole purpose of falling asleep.

The only influence the AAP has on real screen time use is to influence States to put limits on screen use in daycares. Heck NY prohibits PROVIDERS from using screens themselves when kids are in the house.

Parents don't care. They want no screens in daycare so the kid who has been in screen withdrawal all day long at daycare will be glued to it the second they hit the car for the drive home. They know it's not good for them so they feel better about their own child's use on their watch when the kid has been screen free all day.

This absoutely! I remember leaving a centre and driving behind a parent on my way home. Two kids in the van with a dvd player going. These children have been at daycare for 8-10 hours and the parent cant even talk to them in the car on the way home.

Mine all drive 3-9 minutes to their homes and many play a TV show for this time. It makes my heart sad. The children in those cars/vans are the ones who tell me every.single.thing that they did while they were not with me. I think I'm the only one listening, sometimes.
