HF&M - Urgent Help Needed Tonight PLEASE

I have one out this week due to strep throat and pink eye.

My DCG who is 13 months has been teething and miserable for the past 3 days..she left today and mom noticed blisters on feet. My thought process, she wasn't teething but had a sore throat and we mistook it for teething. We've been giving her ibuprofen and tylenol so I'm thinking giving her the medications covered up the initial fever from HF&M.

Do I warn parents tonight and close tomorrow and friday to clean and disinfect? They've all already been exposed..what do I do!?

I have 2 other children that left today fine but have been exposed. 13m and 18m. Both had full contact with the child today and yesterday.

you don't know for sure what it is and until you do, don't put out an exposure notice.

I would also just clean as usual and not close.

if everyone has already been exposed, closing tomorrow won't help you.

If you find out the child has HFM, then you would put out an exposure notice and only exclude children with symptoms.

I don't administer any kind of medication at my program at all, unless it is life saving.

ITA with everything except the last part - I do administer medications in my program.

Personally I don't freak out over HFM. It's a virus, like any other virus that goes around, except it has those nasty ulcers associated with it. As long as the child doesn't have a fever, the blisters can be covered, and the child can participate normally I wouldn't exclude.

I understand why some people choose not to do meds and don't judge. But I take meds when I don't feel well so I figure the kiddos should have meds when they need them too. Luckily most of my parents do the 6-8 hour meds before drop-off so I rarely have to worry about it.

HFM can be contagious for up to a week before and weeks after the rash hits so excluding is kind of pointless except to mitigate symptoms. Basically excluding to prevent the spread of most illness is pointless since most kids are contagious before and/or after symptoms begin or end. I mostly exclude because a child is not healthy to be at daycare not necessarily to prevent illness from spreading. Washing hands and keeping your house and toys clean is KEY to keeping illness at bay.

Kind of the price of doing daycare
