    Does this sound okay?

This is a letter for parents with school kids.

Schoool kids must have the following supplies at daycare. Supplies must be in a bag and every item must be labeled. Suppluesmuat be supplied by October 31 or drop off/pick up from school will NOT be provided by daycare.
    - hat - scarf - gloves/mittens - sweater - umbrella

Do kids really bring umbrellas to school? I can see that as trouble! ::

I think the notice sounds good but what happens if you get to the school to pick up 3 kids and 1 of the 3 doesn't have gloves... will you leave that student at school then? Who will come pick them up?

Maybe you could carry extras of these items for the kids and if they don't have them, let them use your extra's and charge the parent a fee for the inconvenience.

Oh I didn't think of that!!

The big school kids either have a small fold up umbrella in their backpacks or the parents leave one here that I take when I pick them up.

It's a half mile walk to/from school. I only do drop off for one dck..... and that's the one that I'm writing this for. I had to refuse to take to school last year because dck only had a thin jacket when it was -20! I would let dck use my extra gloves and stuff but stopped when dcf told me they didn't know it was required (although I asked!) because I always let dck use my stuff.

My other SA dcks have been with me since infants and their dcf are awesome. I get a ziplock bag with their supplies every winter without even asking. This one dcf won't provide until I say I'm not walking dck to school without proper gear. I'm tired of the excuses that stores ran out of stuff every year when I ask for winter gear. I want to be proactive before stores start running out!!

Would love other suggestions if you have them

Can you have the parent SHOW you the items you requested before they (mom/dad) leave the child with you?

That way if they don't have the proper clothing, you can refuse to accept him into care. Otherwise if accept him into care and then realize after his parents leave that he does not have the proper clothes and you refuse to walk him to school, you are stuck with him at your house all day...!

I would just start doing checks at the door and if he doesn't have all the items you need him to have, he can't be signed in.

        Maybe something like:

        Dear DCF's

I have posted a short check list of items the school kids need to have every day. Please make sure your child has ALL the required items BEFORE signing them into care.

If your child is missing any of the required items, you will need to be responsible for transportation to and from school.

NO school drop offs or pick ups will be provided without the required items on the check list.

        Thank you!

Then hang a laminated check list of the things you require them to have. Easy peasy for parents to understand.

Ideally, that would work. BUT you're right. I don't want to keep him here during preK! Plus mornings can be hectic and I would be mad at myself for forgetting to check! You don't think it's easier to just have the supplies kept here? I can wash them
            As needed?

Absolutely if you have the space!

Require parents to bring AND leave them so you know you always have them and if not, charge a fee.

Money seems to motivate a parent faster than their own child's needs so definitely charge if it comes to that but having them bring items and leave with you does make it alot easier for you. And bottom line, easier for you is all that matters.
