A lot of small centers have pretty flexible job requirements. One center I worked at the director (who normally did meal prep) had to take a classroom for a few months while a teacher was recovering. The plan was for the float to take over the kitchen since she wasn't teacher qualified yet. That lasted 1 week. After that the rooms that had 2 teachers in it convinced the directors to have the float come into a classroom and we rotated kitchen duties. I swear that woman could burn water.

My mother has before. She has this bad habit of reading from wake-up to bedtime. She will put something on the stove and go out back to read and forget. She put water on once to cook pasta once the water was boiling. She forgot long enough for the water to disappear and the pot get burnt. ::

I did worse one time. I put on a pot of oil to deep fry. Someone came to my door and I ended up talking for a while, then I smelled smoke. Took the lid off and the oil burst into flames. That pot went in the garbage. ::

      They are also our future.

I worked at a center where they actually had someone come in and clean. I don't remember how often each week, maybe every night as we didn't clean bathrooms. I took out trash for my room and the two's room, including the diapers. We had carpet-so no mopping. So I guess I had it easy-real easy!.

Another center I worked in didn't require we take out trash even, much less mop and clean the bathroom.

i think the days working in group child care are long and hard. Throw in cleaning toilets and mopping floors and I would have been totally fried! I have always found family child care much easier. Of course I mop and clean, but still the days are easier and less hectic, IMHO.
