Through the Eyes of a 7 yo

Yesterday I was helping my dcgs with their homework. Dcg was writing her spelling words and asked what the word grin meant.

I smiled, giving her a funny grin.

She said, "Oh, it's a smile. You never smile." I told her that I did smile to which she replied, "No, you never smile. You're always too busy taking care of everything to smile. I liked it when you smiled."

Talk about a WOW! moment. I played really close attention the rest of the day. And she's right, I rarely smile. I realized that I have become way too serious. How sad to be stuck with someone all day who rarely smiles at you.

At least you are aware of it now and can do something to change it. I bet she'll be happy to see you smile again!!

 Being aware is huge! I recently was told by a dentist that I must be grinding my teeth at night. I told her "no way!" My gum issues must be from brushing too hard. After a few days of being aware - turns out I grind my teeth ALL DAY! I have been consciously been softening my face. It makes it easier to smile and fewer headaches

That is a good reminder for all of us! Thank you for sharing that.

Moments like that is why I always enjoyed babysitting, and why I want to go into daycare.
Children are little angels, even when they are little devils.
            They are also our future.

Kids have a way of reminding us what's important in life.

Keep smiling! Besides, it makes people wonder you've been up to. (isn't that what they say?)::

Thanks for the reminder. I'm sure that I am guilty of being too serious as well.

85% of communication is body language. our face, our body, how we stand how we sit, how we dress, it all can say a 1000 words without us saying anything at all.

when we are aware, we are able to be more sensitive to others.

Like the other day I have a new friend her name is margarita. I think to myself this must be a joke, I have never heard of a person with a name like this. So when she comes over to visit with me for tea, I say to hey Rita, how was your day.

She was not too happy about me calling her Rita. She explains to me that Her grandfather called her Rita and he was not a very nice man, she did not like it at all and it brought back bad memories for her. Gosh I felt bad.

What I am trying to say, is that if she did not make me aware of this, I would have not known this about her. I would have been upsetting her all this time. So now that she has made me aware of how she feels about this (just like your DCG did) I can be more sensitive and make sure that I don't call her Rita anymore and call her by her full name.

DC life is BUSY work, it is not always fun, it is tiring work, it is not always something to smile about.

what a smart little girl to be so aware and able to explain how she knew you were a serious person.

Don't feel bad, it is not a bad thing to show a child what it is like to be serious about your business.

This thread is a good reminder. I know I can and should smile more throughout my day. There is a saying I like: "your energy introduces you before you even speak."
