Taking Control of Interview- Thanks Guys Positive Vent

Just a positive vent I wanted to share. My DH's niece's last day is next Friday after what happened last week with dcd picking up 1 hr and 8 minutes late. Anyways, I have been posting on social media my openings and have gotten so many calls. I had an interview today with a woman and she fell in love with us and was ready to enroll. She said oh man not sure what I'm going to tell the other lady but I am so excited for her to start with you guys. I had to let her know I was still conducting interviews but would notify her by the end of next week my decision. She said oh yes, of course. And said, well she hopes we pick her. I would have never done that before reading this forum. I use to let parents contact me if they wanted to enroll. It feels good holding the reins. Okay positive vent over. =]

Yes, when I heard her talking as if she was already going to start, I feel I must've turned a few shades because I felt so bad having to tell her waittttt, I have other people wanting the spot as well.

But then again, this woman comes a from a retired woman who has her 13 year old daughter watch the baby and not change her sometimes. During our phone interview she even asked if she had to bring toys for the baby. Such a terrible situation.

Yes! And this forum has gotten me in contact with so many providers who have been in business so long. I would never have been able to get their insight on things without this.

So proud of you! Years ago, I changed the name of my tour to an orientation.

Anyway, changing the name seemed to do a mindbending thing to me and the way I interact with potential clients. It turned the process around and made me feel more in control. And, in this case, control is a good thing.

@Thriving Nice idea. I am slowly taking more control and learning to ask more questions to see if the parents and child are a good fit for me. My DH who works jointly is good with listening to certain keywords as well. For example, someone that thinks they can start off part-time and switch to full time one week, then back to part time the next, etc.

It's exciting the more you learn, and the more control you have. It makes all the difference.

I've started to do the same thing, make it clear that it's a mutual decision in whether we all are a good "fit", not just them interviewing me. It's a bit awkward at first, for sure!

On a side note, you said you advertised on social media. Where and how? I was curious if you just put out word on your own page or the local parent groups or if you did an actual advertisement. I was considering that route next time.

This has motivated me to begin saying this to ALL interviews as well. Thank you for that!

I have FINALLY implemented a Trial Period Contract for the initial two weeks and I'm so excited about it.

Even if you only have 1 interview, still say it. Well at least I do. And I'm sure to get their email address as well in case I have a tough time telling them I decided not to accept them. I had a family 2 or 3 months ago come but said they wouldn't be able to pick up right at my closing time. I kindly told them I would not be enrolling with them due to the time being an issue.

I haven't done the trial period as I haven't felt the need to do it yet. Maybe in the future.

I think it makes them realize you can replace them and they will follow policies better, and be more respectful since they are lucky to have the spot, since they go "picked"
